WELCOME — Juneteenth has been celebrated on Friday, June 19, commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States.
The American Red Cross blood drive will be on June 29, at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome, Trimont Covenant Church and Truman Community Building. Call 1-800-733-2767 (1-800-RED-CROSS), visit www.redcrossblood.org or text ‘BLOODAPP’ to 90999 to make an appointment or get further information about blood drives in the area. Blood supply is always lower in the summer months, but the demand for blood is higher, so give blood if you are eligible (age 16 or older, weigh 110 or more and in good health). Thank you. Your blood donation may save up to three people.
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon will have a service at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, June 20, to close the church and have a decommissioning. The public is invited. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church has been doing the Lord’s work for 126 years.

Sundaes in the Park will be at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, at Triumph Memorial Park in Trimont. The entertainment will be pianist Glenn Henriksen. If inclement weather, the event will be held at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont.
Condolences to the family of Phyllis Leet, who passed away in California. The urn will be placed at the St. Paul’s Cemetery in Welcome at 1 p.m. today, Saturday, June 20, and a gathering will be held at the Baptist Church in Fairmont.
Coffee Hours will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in June at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good fellowship around a cup of coffee and treats.
The Friendship Club from St. John’s in Sherburn invites area residents to join them for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. on July 6 at Green Mill in Fairmont. Membership in the club or at St. John’s is not required.
The Federated Rural Electric Association will invite area legislators, county officers and city officers to a picnic at its building to discuss broadband and other rural electric issues at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23.
The Sherburn/Welcome Police Department will have Bike Rodeo events for children at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, at Martin County West High School in Sherburn, and at noon at the Welcome Fire Hall. Children will receive bike safety information, a gift bag, lessons in correct helmet use, and navigate their bicycles through cones. Children should bring a bike, helmet and wear closed toe shoes. Parents are asked to remain with their child(ren) and sign a waiver. Thank you to the Sherburn/Welcome Police Department for doing this educational and community help event.
Those who would like to sign up for affidavits of candidacy for the city election in November should contact the City Hall from July 14 to 28. Two council members (four year term) and a mayor (two year term) will be elected.
