FHS Robotics, The MegaHertz, sees success at State
FAIRMONT — The Fairmont High School Robotics Team, Team 2847-The MegaHertz qualified for the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Robotics Tournament. The team earned its spot by placing second at both the Lake Superior Regional in Duluth and the Iowa Regional in Cedar Falls in March.
The tournament was held on Saturday, May 16, at the Gangelhoff Center at Concordia University in Saint Paul. Minnesota’s 36 highest-performing teams received invites to the single-class competition. The Fairmont team finished the qualification round with a five-to-two record and ranked ninth.
Team programmer, robot driver and senior Isaac Stone was named Individual All-State for Programming. Only three seniors from the state’s nearly 200 robotics teams are chosen for this award for their outstanding computer programming contributions to their teams.
Team mentor Cindy Viesselman, currently in her ninth season coaching the team, was awarded the Section 2 Coach of the Year title.
