Sherburn Summer Festival on June 20

SHERBURN — A CREST Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at the Sinn Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. The program will be followed by lunch. The program will be about wills, powers of attorney, and trusts presented by attorney Paul Edman. This program is free for Martin County seniors. Please RSVP for a lunch and handout count at (507) 235-3833. Free-will donations are appreciated.

Hamburger Night will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, June 3, at the Sherburn Legion. Purchase a burger, salad, and baked beans for $12. They will have a Steak Night on Saturday, June 13.

The Sherburn Legion will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9.

Coffee Hours are from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in June at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, treats and fellowship.

Sundaes at the Park will begin with the Trimont Centennial Band at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, at Triumph Memorial Park in Trimont.

Condolences to the families of Brian Cermak (Crystal Valley trucker), Jason Gronewald, Allan Tadd, and Thomas Kuehl (from Ormsby) who passed away recently. They will be missed by family and friends.

There will be an 80th birthday open house celebration for Les Anderson from 1 to 4 p.m. on June 7, at 1620 Knollwood Drive in Fairmont. Cards will reach him at that address. Congratulations, Les, and our wish is for many more birthdays.

Congratulations to Doug Hartke, who was named Outdoor Person of the Year by the Outdoorsman organization.

St. John’s Lutheran Church’s Friendship Club will sponsor a bus day trip to Plymouth Playhouse in Iowa to see a comedy play, “A Second Helping”, which is a sequel to “Church Basement Ladies,” on Thursday, July 18. They need 40 people to sign up. They plan to have lunch and see the 2 p.m. matinee performance and then return to Sherburn that evening/afternoon. The lunch is a buffet with buttered pasta, meatball marinara sauce, chicken alfredo, salad, green beans, breadsticks, brownies and a beverage. St. John’s Lutheran Church is also taking registrations for their Vacation Bible School from June 8-12 for preschool and kindergarten. students and for their Camp Omega Day Camp from July 6-10 for students entering first grade to sixth grade. Contact the church at (507) 764-5312 or church@sjlsherburn.com as soon as possible. The Youth group is also planning a service trip to Nashville, Tenn., from July 11-18 to help congregations there. Sounds like a busy summer at St. John’s Church.

The American Red Cross blood drives will be on June 15 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, on June 19 at the American Legion in Fairmont, and on June 29 at Truman Community Hall, St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and Trimont Covenant Church. Blood is needed every two seconds in the United States. The supply is low now, so give if you are eligible (ages 16 and up, weigh 110 or more and in good health). Thank you. The Sherburn Summer Festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 20. Mark your calendar and plan to attend all the events: parade 1 p.m.; classic car and tractor show from 8 a.m. to noon; Sand volleyball tournament at 9 a.m.; Vendor show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; kids pedal pull from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the park; Shell’s Hobo Band after the parade and KJ Sound from 3 to 6 p.m. at the park. The Fox Lake Event Center will host the Fat City All Stars Band from 7 to 11 p.m., with pork chops on a stick available while supplies last at their event center north of Sherburn. The Raffle drawing will be at 6 p.m. at the park. There will be children’s inflatables, bingo and a beer garden until 6 p.m. at the park. The Lions Club and St. John’s will have food stands and a root beer float stand will be there.

The day before the festival, the Sherburn Fire Relief Association will have its annual Chicken Feed from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 19, at the Fire Hall. Chicken, sweet corn, and beans will be served. Steve Lang will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight, and music will be provided by KJ Sound for the street dance.

The weekend of the festival, there will be city-wide garage sales in Sherburn. Those who would like to have their garage sale on the map should bring information and the $10 dues to Bank Midwest in Sherburn by Monday, June 15. The maps will be available at Bank Midwest and Casey’s.

The Sherburn Library will have summer events. Arts and Craft drop-in sessions will be from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, starting Tuesday, June 9. Storytime will be at 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays. A 4H Adventure will be at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11. Sustainable Safari will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 18.

The Regional Worship Center will discontinue the Wednesday evening Bible classes and have a Men’s Night at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, with a meal provided and a Youth Night on Thursday, June 18. They will have a special guest speaker, Ian McCormack, on Saturday, June 27, who was hit by five venomous jellyfish and survived due to God’s help. The public is invited to hear this speaker.
