MCW graduation/last school day today
WELCOME — The last day of school for the Martin County West students is today, Friday, May 29. The graduation ceremony will be at 7 p.m. tonight, Friday, May 29, at the MCW High School in Sherburn. Congratulations to all the area seniors who are graduating from area high schools.
Condolences to the families of Robert “Bob” Spencer and Ronald Snyder. They will be missed by family and friends.
Coffee Hours will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in June at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, treats and fellowship.
During June, the Circle of Faith will have services at 9 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Trimont and 10:30 a.m. services at Trinity Lutheran in Welcome. This initiates the rotation of months, enabling the four different churches in the Circle to have special services. Area services at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn will be at 10:30 a.m. in June. The Regional Worship Center in Sherburn will have 10 a.m. services. St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome has services at 9:30 a.m. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn has services at 8 a.m., and its partner St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert will have 10 a.m. services. Area residents are welcome to worship with any of these area churches. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon will be closing in June with a special decommissioning service at 2 p.m. on June 20.
The American Red Cross blood drives will be on June 2 and 3 at the Best Western in Fairmont, on June 15 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, on June 19 at the American Legion in Fairmont, and on June 29 at Truman Community Hall, St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and Trimont Covenant Church. Please call for appointments or more information about blood drives in the area at 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767), go online to www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999. Blood is needed every two seconds in the United States. The supply is low now, so give if you are eligible (ages 16 and up, weigh 110 or more and in good health). Thank you. Each blood donation may save three lives.
The CREST Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn, with a lunch after the program. Call (507) 235-3833 to reserve your place. These programs are educational, fun and free for Martin County senior citizens. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.
The Welcome Burn Site will be open for Welcome residents from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3. Please bring wood that is six inches in diameter or less, brush or grass clippings. Garbage and large stamps are prohibited. Thank you for your cooperation.
The Welcome Historical Society Museum will be open from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, on Hulseman Street. Check out the interesting Welcome historical items. For further information, contact Vicki Nelsen at (507) 236-7081.
