MCW graduation on May 29

CEYLON — The Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon will have a cornhole tournament from 1 to 4 p.m. today, Saturday, May 23.

This week was National EMS Week. Thank you to all the EMRs, EMTs and Paramedics in Martin County.

The last Coffee Hour on Tuesdays in May will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. Coffee Hours from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays in June will be at St. Luke Catholic Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, treats and fellowship.

The Martin County West class of 2026 graduation will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 29. The Baccalaureate service will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dunnell. Congratulations to all graduates from area high schools.

Condolences to the family of Bette Stevens, who passed away recently. She will be missed.

The Circle of Faith will change services in June so that the same parishes will not always have special services. In June, the parishes will have 9 a.m. services at First Lutheran Church in Trimont and 10:30 a.m. services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome.

Memorial Day programs are planned for area towns on Monday, May 25. The Welcome Memorial Day program will be at 9 a.m at the Welcome Legion Hall. Ean Sinn will be the speaker. The Sherburn Memorial Day program will be at 10:30 a.m. at the City Park (if inclement weather, the MCW High School in Sherburn). Eagle Scout Jonah Striemer will be the speaker. The Boy Scouts will have a picnic for a free-will donation at the shelter house following the program.

The American Red Cross blood drives will be on June 2 and 3 at the Best Western in Fairmont,, on June 15 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, on June 19 at the Fairmont Legion and on June 29 at the Truman Community Hall, St. Paul Community Church in Welcome and Trimont Covenant Church. Blood is needed every two seconds in the United States. The supply is low now, so give if you are eligible (ages 16 and up, weigh 110 or more and in good health). Thank you. The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will have lunch at 11 a.m. on June 1, at Tami’s on the Ave in Fairmont. Area residents are welcome to join them. Membership at St. John’s is not required. They will also have a day trip by bus to Plymouth Playhouse in Iowa on July 18 and invite area residents to join them. The cost is $120 per person and it will include the bus trip, lunch and the play. The play is a sequel to the comedy Church Basement Ladies, “A Second Helping”.
