Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 10

SHERBURN — A CREST Lunch and Learn program about phone service will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, May 6, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. Call (507) 235-3833 for more information or to RSVP for the program and lunch. These programs are free to senior citizens in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.

Hamburger Night will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, May 6, at the Sherburn Legion. Twelve dollars will purchase a burger, beans and a salad. The Sherburn Legion will also have its Steak Fry Night from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 9. The menu includes your choice of ribeye steak ($22), shrimp, or smoked pork chop ($18) with salad bar, baked potato and garlic toast. Plan to attend.

The Sherburn Legion will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12. All members are encouraged to attend.

Mother’s Day Indoor Farmers’ Market will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. A lunch of soup, salads and treats will be served for a free-will donation to support the Trimont Community Food Shelf. There will be many vendors and a special Mobile Greenhouse from Brandt Gardens with hanging baskets and plants. There will be an activity to make cards for Mother’s Day or other cards that could be given to Nursing Home residents. Plan to attend.

A bridal shower for Jazlyn Geerdes, who is the bride-to-be of Zach Anderson, will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Congratulations and best wishes to the couple.

Coffee Hours continue from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in May at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. Join friends and neighbors for great coffee, treats and fellowship.

The Fox Lake Golf Club Pork Chop Dinner Fundraiser will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 17. Pre-sale tickets cost $15, and are sold at the golf club or from any board member. At-the-door tickets cost $17. The dinner includes baked beans, a baked potato and beverages for sale. The Martin County Pork Producers will grill the pork chops.

American Red Cross blood drives will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 18, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Blood supply is extremely low, so donate blood if you are eligible (ages 16 or older, weigh 110 pounds or more and in good health). Thank you.

The Sherburn Library will have a sign language program at 3:30 p.m. on May 19. Learn sign language at the library, which is located next to the City Hall on 1st Street.

Martin County West Schools will have no school on Friday, May 22 for a teacher’s workshop day. The last day of school will be on Friday, May 29 with an early dismissal, and the Baccalaureate Service for seniors on will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dunnell.

The MCW baseball team is scheduled for games on May 7 at Nicollet, on May 8 and 9 at St. James for a Tournament and on May 12 at St. Mary’s in Sleepy Eye. The softball team is scheduled for games on May 9 at WWG for a tournament and on May 12 at Sleepy Eye. The golf team is scheduled to meet at Madelia on May 8, and at Rose Lake Golf Course on May 11 for a conference tournament, with a meet at Fox Lake Golf Course on May 12 vs GHEC/T/ML. The track and field athletes will compete on May 7, at Lake Crystal. Conference games and sub sections are scheduled soon. Good Luck Mavericks.

St. John’s Lutheran Church Friendship Club will have a Day Trip on July 18 to the Plymouth Playhouse in Iowa to see the play, Church Basement Ladies sequel, “A Second Helping”. The cost is $120 per person, which includes bus transportation, dinner and the show. They need 40 people to sign up.
