FAIRMONT — Attend a party for a purpose at the Fairmont Women of Today’s second CreativiTEA Party from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 11, at the Red Rock Center for the Arts in Fairmont.
The event will support the Heaven’s Table Food Shelf Backpack Program, which provides snacks and meals for weekend and holiday breaks to approximately 400 students from participating Martin County schools.
“We want it to be a fun event and certainly bring awareness,” said Fairmont Women of Today Treasurer Kaitlin Bormann. “When we did it two years ago, being a first-time event, we didn’t know what kind of response we’d receive and we were blown away by the support, and that we were able to share over $800 with the Backpack Program was amazing.”
The CreativiTEA Party is geared toward all families. Activities will include butterfly, three-dimensional wooden flower and beaded arts and crafts, cookie decorating in partnership with Butter Babes of Minnesota, a photo booth in partnership with Prolific Memories, pinwheels, temporary tattoos, nail art and hair accessories.
Fairmont Women of Today members and volunteers will serve yogurt parfaits, pastries and beverages. The event is also made possible by grant funding from the Martin County Youth Foundation.
In addition, informational displays about Fairmont Women of Today and the Backpack Program will be at the event.
“It’s for people who want to learn more about it, what’s in a sample kit that a child would be able to take home for their meals and snacks, the cost of putting together those bags and how many children receive it across the country,” Bormann explained.
Fairmont Women of Today currently has 18 members. Together, the group recognizes the significance of the Backpack Program and its contributions to many households in Martin County. Members have been assembling Backpack Program bags monthly for three years.
“I think it’s important to address food insecurity. To be able to support these organizations that do such good work is important to us,” Bormann said. “Part of our creed is ‘may we leave the world a better place because we lived and served within it’. We’re able to do something we enjoy and bring enjoyment to others, but ultimately serve lots of families,” Bormann said.
She further explained that there are three pillars of Women of Today: service, growth and fellowship. The pillars tie into the acts of service by Fairmont Women of Today, the CreativiTEA Party and even the people that will attend the event.
“People are coming together for an enjoyable event, but they’re making a difference. They might get a taste of each of those, service, growth and fellowship, even just by participating,” Bormann said.
Fairmont Women of Today looks forward to families participating, having fun with the various offerings and supporting the Fairmont Women of Today and Backpack Program on Saturday.
Registration for the event is not required. Proceeds from donations will benefit the Backpack Program. For additional information about Fairmont Women of Today, future endeavors, ways to involved and the upcoming CreativiTEA Party, visit the Facebook page, “Fairmont Women of Today.”
