MCW school musical this weekend

SHERBURN — The Sherburn City Hall is closed until Monday, March 30. This week, the clerk and deputy clerk are attending a clerk conference. The dropbox can be used and messages left will be answered as soon as they can.

The Martin County West Drama Department will show its spring musical, “The Olympians,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28 at the Sherburn Theatre. The musical is about the Greek Goddesses challenging their male-dominated hierarchy of Mount Olympus. Three mortal champions are selected to compete in a quest to become an Olympic heroine. Local talents will be led by director Alaina Baker, accompanied by the pit band. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. Sounds like a fun evening. There will also be a concession stand and a bake sale.

The Spring Indoor Farmer’s Market and Lunch will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. Soups, bars and cookies with coffee will be served. The proceeds from the lunch will go to the Trimont Community Food Shelf. There will be local items and craft vendors. There will be an exhibit of weaving with a table loom and woodworking items by a vendor’s husband.

Music Bingo and Pizza Night will be at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, at the Fox Lake Event Center in Sherburn.

Tonight will be the last Midweek Lenten Service. Sunday is Palm Sunday and next week is Holy Week, the week before Easter. Tonight, Circle of Faith parishes meet at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome at 6 p.m. for a meal by the Circle’s Council. The service will be at 7 p.m. At St. Paul’s Lutheran in Wilbert, they will host their partner church, St. John from Sherburn, for a service at 6 p.m. and a cooperative lunch and fellowship following that service. St. Luke’s Catholic Church has 8:30 a.m. services and Stations of the Cross mass at 6 p.m. and a meal at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31. Special Holy Week services in area churches include Palm Sunday at St. John services at 8 a.m., with the Sunday School children singing. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services at St. John’s in Sherburn at 6 p.m. Easter Sunday, they will have a 7 a.m. and a 9:30 a.m. service with a breakfast from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Their partner church in Wilbert will have a Maundy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m. and a Good Friday service at 6 p.m. On Easter Sunday, Wilbert will have breakfast at 8 a.m. and services at 9:30 a.m. The Circle of Faith parishes have Palm Sunday services at 9 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon and 10:30 a.m. services at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome. On Maundy Thursday, their services will be at 7 p.m. at St. Peter in Ceylon and on Good Friday, the services will be at 7 p.m. at First Lutheran in Trimont. The Easter Sunday service will be at Trinity in Welcome at 9 a.m. St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn will join its partner churches for Maundy Thursday at Good Shepherd in Jackson at 6:30 p.m. and on Good Friday, they will have a 3 p.m. service in Sherburn. On Saturday, they will join St. Joseph in Lakeville for the Easter Vigil, and on Easter Sunday, they will have a 10:30 a.m. service in Sherburn. The Regional Worship Center in Sherburn will have an Easter Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and services at 10 a.m. Area residents are welcome to join any of these churches for services. Easter is not about the bunny, but it is about the Lamb.

MCW has begun its spring sports schedules. The baseball team will play at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at Adrian. A Tomahawk Valley Conference Co-Ed Indoor Track and Field competition will be at 5 p.m. on March 30 at Minnesota State University in Mankato. The baseball team will compete against Heron Lake-Okabena at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, at the Welcome Ball Field. Good luck, Mavericks. Hope the weather holds out for the games.

CREST will host Toolbox for Caregivers from 9:30 to 11 a.m. each Thursday in April at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn (212 North Prairie). Please sign up for the classes by March 31 at (507) 235-3833. There is a suggested donation of $10 to help pay for the materials.

The Mayo Mobile Clinic will be in Sherburn from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 6 and 8 near City Hall on 1st Street. Call the appointment number at (507) 238-8500 and mention the Sherburn location for an appointment.

The American Red Cross Blood drives will be on April 13 at the Regional Worship Center (south of Interstate 90) in Sherburn and on April 17 at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont. CREST’s Lunch and Learn program for senior citizens will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 1 at Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn (212 North Prairie). These programs are free, but CREST appreciates a free-will donation.

The Friendship Club from St. John’s church will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. on April 6, at The Still Bar and Grill in Dunnell. Area residents are welcome to join. Membership at St. John’s is not required. Join them for fun and fellowship.
