Truman looks over sidewalk bids, campground rules
TRUMAN– On Monday the Truman City Council considered three bids for the Highway 15 sidewalk extension project, two of which came in below the engineer’s estimate.
The low bid came in at $317,584 from Nielsen Blacktopping & Concrete. A second came in at $370,797 from M.R. Paving & Excavating and the third bid came in at $457,846 from Ti-Zak Concrete, LLC.
“There are some things we want to work through on it,” said Utility Foreman, Brent Brown.”We’re not asking to take any action on the bids. We’re requesting to have a work session to get some of the property owners and Bolton & Menk to come in.”
Following a work session, which was set for 5:30 p.m. on March 30, Brown said they would potentially make a decision at the first meeting in April.
Brown also touched on some updated campground rules which he asked the council to review.
“Some of the changes were in the monthly rules because we handle those a little different than the general campers,” Brown said.
He added that some of the changes were mirrored off of the county’s rules and that they also looked at other campground rules.
“They’re pretty standard stuff with other campgrounds,” Brown said.
Finally, Brown touched briefly on a property survey. He said there were some requests to collect nuisance items so he and one employee went around to about a dozen properties that they’re going to work on.
In other business on Monday:
— The council approved of a renewal of the conditional use permit for Prairieland Solid Waste. Andy Geiger of Prairieland was present and said there are no major changes to the permit.
— Greg Burkhardt of Burkhardt & Burkhardt Ltd. gave a presentation of the city’s 2025 audit, which was a clean financial report. Burkhardt said they found no incidents of non-compliance.
— The Truman Days Committee had asked for use of the Community Building for one Sunday evening a month at no charge for planning purposes. The council approved of the request.
