Lake Promenaders to meet Sunday

WELCOME — Hope you are not superstitious because is Friday the 13th. I saw a couple robins and a red headed woodpecker, so signs of spring are here.

A cribbage tournament will begin with registration at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at the Welcome Legion Hall. There will be a cribbage tournament on Saturday, March 21. All area cribbage players are welcome to join the fun.

The Lake Promenaders square dance club will meet at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, at the Shaw home at 804 West 1st Street in Welcome. Dancers and watchers are welcome.

An American Red Cross blood drive will be on Monday, March 16, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Call 800-733-2767, visit www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999 to make an appointment or find blood drive locations in the area. Blood supply is extremely low now, so give if you are eligible.

CREST’s Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. The program will be presented by a representative of Interfaith Caregivers from Blue Earth about the Alertlink Medical Alert System. This program is for Martin County senior citizens and a lunch will follow. CREST does appreciate a free-will donation. Please RSVP to (507) 235-3833.

Another Midweek Lenten service day is Wednesday, March 18. Area churches invite all area residents to join them for Lenten services and lunch. The Circle of Faith parishes will gather for a 6 p.m. meal and 7 p.m. service at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome. St. John’s Lutheran in Sherburn will host their partner church from Wilbert at the 6 p.m. service followed by a meal. St. Luke’s Catholic Church has 8:30 a.m. services. They have a Stations of the Cross at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, mass at 6 p.m. and a meal at 6:30 p.m.

Condolences to the family of Barbara Peterson, who passed away recently. She will be missed by family and friends.

The deadline to apply for the Bruce Larson memorial $1,000 scholarship is April 1. This is for students in a college or technical school in electrical controls degree programs.
