Sherburn Legion Steak Fry on Saturday
SHERBURN — Today is the last day Sherburn City Hall accepts mayor applications. A decision will be made on Monday, March 16.
Lenten Midweek services will be tonight, March 11, at area churches. All area residents are welcome to join any of these congregations. St. Luke’s Catholic Church will have 8:30 a.m. services, and they offer a Stations of the Cross on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., a Mass at 6 p.m., and a meal at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday. Saturday services are at 5 p.m. in March. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert will host their partner church, St. John Lutheran from Sherburn at a 6 p.m. service with a cooperative lunch following. The ladies group at Wilbert- LWML- will meet on March 12 at 1:30 p.m. Sunday services are at 8 a.m at St. John’s and 10 a.m. at Wilbert. Circle of Faith parishes will meet for a 6 p.m. meal at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome and the service will follow at 7 p.m. Sunday services in March for the parishes are at 9 a.m. at Trinity in Welcome and 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran in Trimont.
American Red Cross blood drives will be today, March 11, at Granada-Huntley-East Chain High School in Granada, March 16 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont and April 13 at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. Martin County West Schools will not have school on Friday, March 13. It is a teacher workshop.
A cribbage tournament will begin with registration at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at the Welcome Legion Hall. There will be a cribbage tournament on Saturday, March 21. All area cribbage players are welcome to join the fun.
A steak fry will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at the Sherburn Legion Hall. Choose from ribeye ($22), shrimp or smoked pork chop ($18), with a baked potato and salad. Sounds yummy and for a good cause too. Plan to attend.
CREST’s Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 18, at Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. The program will be presented by a representative of Interfaith Caregivers from Blue Earth about the Alertlink Medical Alert System. This program is for Martin County senior citizens and a lunch will follow. CREST does appreciate a free-will donation. Please RSVP to (507) 235-3833.
In upcoming events, the Friendship Club from St. John’s in Sherburn will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. on April 6 at The Still in Dunnell. All area residents are welcome to join the club for a meal and fellowship. Membership at St. John’s is not required.
The Sherburn City Council will meet at 5 p.m., and the Martin County West School Board will meet at 6 p.m. on March 16.
In my search for signs of spring, I saw several flocks of geese flying in formation to the north, and St. Patrick’s Day is March 17. Hope you remembered to change your clock to daylight savings time last weekend, that is a sign of spring too, and, of course, mud.
