Township elections on March 10

CEYLON — Sunday is the first day of March. Maybe I could look for signs of spring now.

The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church will meet for snacks and a movie, “A Man Called Otto,” at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 2, at the church. Area residents are welcome to join the fellowship. Membership at St. John’s is not required.

Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon will have Burger Night beginning at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 2. They will have Music Bingo night from 4 to 7 p.m. on March 14.

St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn has Stations of the Cross available at 5:30 p.m. followed by a mass at 6 p.m. and then a meal at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 2. They remind area residents that a Fish Fry on Fridays is planned for March 6 at Lakefield (St. Joseph) and on March 27 at St. Luke’s. They have Lenten services at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. Area residents are welcome to join them for these events. The area churches also have midweek Lenten services. St. John’s Lutheran Church will host their partner church (St. Paul Wilbert) at a Wednesday service at 6 p.m. and a meal served by the Youth Group to follow. The Circle of Faith Parishes will meet on Wednesdays at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome at 6 p.m. for supper and followed by the service at 7 p.m. Area residents are welcome to join them.

A CREST Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. This is a free program for senior citizens in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.

The Cribbage Tournaments will add another Saturday for play during the month of March so Tournaments of Cribbage will be held Saturday, March 7, 14 and 21 at the Welcome Legion Hall beginning at 1:15 p.m. with registration. All cribbage players in the area are welcome to join in the afternoon of fun and fellowship.

The Coffee Lovers group meets from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Thursday at the back room of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. Area men and women are welcome to join them for fellowship and coffee.

The Township Elections and Annual meetings are scheduled for March 10. Contact the township clerk or see times for meetings in area newspapers. This is a good opportunity to participate directly in local decision-making, which is a grass roots example of democracy in action. Plan to attend.

The American Red Cross blood drives will be on March 6 at Fairmont High School and on March 16 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Call 800-red-cross (800-733-2767), go online to www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999 to make an appointment or find blood drives near you.

The Ceylon Helping Hands non-profit group has taken over the organization and delivery of the Heaven’s Table food boxes in Ceylon. Please call them at (507) 236-7850 by March 12 for more information about the guidelines and the delivery. The date for delivery is from 9 a.m. to noon on March 17.

We turn our clocks ahead one hour on March 8. Make sure to do that so you can be on time to the Lion’s Pancake Feed from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Martin County West High School in Sherburn.

Mark your calendars for the 91st Ceylon Community Day auction on April 11. Don’t miss the big day.
