Ash Wednesday/Lenten services tonight

SHERBURN — Today, Feb. 18, is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten Season. Several area churches have special services planned. St. Luke’s Catholic Church will have services at 8:30 a.m. and their partner churches in Jackson and Lakefield will have services at 5:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. respectively. St. John’s Lutheran in Sherburn will have services at 6 p.m. and the Youth Group will serve Potato Bake following the service. Their partner church in Wilbert will have a service at 7:30 p.m. with a cooperative lunch to follow. The Circle of Faith Parishes will meet at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome at 7 p.m. Several churches plan to have Wednesday evening Lenten Midweek services. St. John’s Lutheran Church will have its service at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22 with a call meeting to follow. They invite their partner church from Wilbert to join. There will be no service at St. Paul’s Wilbert that Sunday.

CREST’s Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Feb. 18, at the First Lutheran Church in Trimont. These programs are free to Martin County senior citizens. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.

The Sherburn Legion will have Hamburger Night from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Feb. 18. Get a burger, salad and beans for only $12.

A Winter Farmer’s Market and Soup Luncheon will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont (111 Apple Street East). A free will donation will purchase your choice of soup, bread and coffee. Proceeds will help the Trimont Area Food Shelf.  Besides the lunch there will be a farmers’ market and vendors present. There will be craft activities featuring a Jeweled Fairy Wand  and Cards for shut ins and hospitalized patients. Spring is only 30-plus days away, celebrate it at Trimont on Thursday.

The Memory Cafe free support group for family and caregivers of any dementia patient will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23 at Temperance Lake Ridge. All are welcome to join.

The Sherburn Theatre will feature the movie, “I Can Only Imagine 2” at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 21 and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22.

The Mayo Mobile Clinic van will be in Sherburn from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 23 and 25 near City Hall. Call the appointment number at (507) 238-8500 and mention Sherburn Clinic.

American Red Cross blood drives continue in Martin County. Blood drives will be on Feb. 20 at the American Legion in Fairmont, Feb. 23 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and Feb. 24 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. There is an exceptionally critical need for blood at this time, so give if you are eligible (age 16-plus weigh 110-plus pounds and are in good health). Condolences to the families of Joan (Oscar) Rosen and Ardis Weiss, formerly of Sherburn, who passed away recently. They will be missed by family and many friends.

The Lions’ Pancake Feed will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on March 8 at Martin County West High School in Sherburn.

The Friendship Club from St. John’s Church in Sherburn will meet to watch the movie “A Man Called Otto” at 1:30 p.m. on March 2 at the church. Bring a snack to pass. Area seniors are invited. Membership at St. John’s is not required.
