Fairmont Speech claims silver at Loyola

MANKATO — The Fairmont High School Speech Team competed at the Mankato Loyola “Crusader Classic” Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 14, in Mankato. Fairmont took second place in Team Sweepstook with 104 points. Mankato West took first place with 138 points.

Novice Finals:

Creative Expression: Senior Matthew Senneff took fifth.

Discussion: Junior Jonas Krist took third and Sophomore Evie Folkerts was the Champion.

Drama: Sophomore Michelle Esquivel took second.

Great Speeches: Freshman Emma Schmidt was the Champion.

Oratory: Eighth grader Natalie Flaherty took fourth.

Poetry: Senior Anthony Klanderued took second.

Prose: Seventh grader Julia Reyelts took third.

Storytelling: Eighth grader Gwen Edman took fourth.

Varsity Finals:

Drama: Senior Cooper Gudahl took third and Junior Allie Streit took second.

Duo Interpretation: Senior Cooper Gudahl and Junior Leon Yang took fourth.

Extemp. Reading: Junior Allie Streit was the Champion.

Extemp. Speaking: Senior Levi Loughmiller took fourth and Senior Belinda Lutterman was the Champion.

Humorous: Eighth grader Collin Reyelts took sixth, Senior Thomas Hamlet took fourth and Junior Leon Yang was the Champion.

Oratory: Eighth grader Addie Lintelman took fifth and Senior Belinda Lutterman was the Champion.

Storytelling: Sophomore Michelle Esquivel took fifth and Senior Megan Wheeler took second.

The Fairmont Speech team competes again this Saturday, Feb. 21, at Mankato West and Shakopee.

The Fairmont Speech Team is coached by Kathleen Walker, Erik Walker and Miles Duffey.
