Many events to be held at TPS

TRUMAN — The Jaguar boys basketball game will be tonight at Cleveland.

The Jaguar girls basketball game will be against Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons at Granada-Huntley-East Chain.

The American Red Cross blood drive will be from noon to 5 p.m. on Jan. at the Truman Community Building. Please give, as blood is at a national shortage. Other blood drives are Feb. 9 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont and Feb 10 and 11 at Best Western in Fairmont. Call 800-733-2767, go online to www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999 to find blood drives in the area.

Martin Luther High School’s Mac and Cheese Cook-off will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 during the Jaguar girls’ basketball game vs Fairmont. To enter the challenge, entries are due by Friday, Jan. 30. Go to www.martinlutherhs.com/specialevents or call the school at (507) 436-5249. This mac and cheese cook-off is open to the public. The cost is $7, which allows sampling of all mac and cheese entered in the competition and one vote for your favorite.

Open gym is available from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Truman Public School. It’s free. Parents or guardians are required to be present for children in grades 3 or younger.

Roller skating will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at TPS. Admission is $5 per person. Parents or guardians are required to be present for children in grades 3 or younger. Both open gym and rollerskating are both held at the TPS gymnasium.

The month of February is School board recognition month. This time is meant to recognize the contributions made by our school board members to our school district. They spend countless hours attending monthly meetings, listening to ideas from parents, staff, students and community members, learning about educational issues and participating in training opportunities. Let’s say thank you to our Truman School Board members: Mike Pfeil, Paula Heckman, James Farnum, Kenna Krahmer, Maria Haler and Aaron Brudelie.

Groundhog Day is Feb. 2. Whether the groundhog sees its shadow or not, I think we will have some winter weather in the next six weeks.

The Truman City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2. The public is welcome to attend these meetings.

Lego activities will be from 3 to 4:30 pm on Monday in the home-ec room. Bring your own snack, beverage provided. Children grades 3 and younger need to be accompanied by an adult.

Recycling day is Wednesday. Please place containers curbside by 7 a.m.

Puzzle Night is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the board room at TPS. This is free, and puzzles are provided. Bring your own snacks and beverages.

Cookie Decorating will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 9 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 at TPS. Admission is $5 per person. Registration is due on Feb. 2 by calling (507) 776-2111, ext. 3912. Children grades 3 and younger need to be accompanied by an adult.

Truman Pride will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Pride in the school, pride in the students and pride in our future. They work together to promote, support and accomplish fun things and resources for the students, staff and school. All are welcome. It is okay to bring your kids. Be a part of something positive.

Driver’s education information can be found in the TPS office. This will be the last class at GHEC and Truman as there is not an instructor to offer at this time. This class will begin in March, so get the information soon to register.

Teen Night for MLHS, SPL, GHEC and TPS students in grades 5 to 8 will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the TPS gymnasium. Activities include dancing and glow volleyball. Admission is $5. Snacks, glowsticks and items will be available for purchase. Please sign up by Feb. 26 by contacting the TPS office at (507) 776-2111.
