Ceylon Area Historical Society meeting Feb. 4

CEYLON — St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert is scheduled to have services at 10 a.m. on Sunday and an annual voter’s meeting to follow. All members are encouraged to attend. The Circle of Faith parishes are scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. and at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Trimont on Sunday. First Lutheran will have their annual meeting after the service.

American Red Cross blood drives continue on Jan. 28 in Armstrong, Iowa, Jan. 30 in Truman, Feb. 9 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont and on Feb. 10 and 11 at Best Western in Fairmont. Call the 800-733-2767, (800-red-cross) go online to www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999 to find blood drives in the area. There is a critical need for blood so give if you are eligible, (at least 16 years old, 110 pounds or more and in good health) Thank you.

Condolences to the family of Emma Simmering (Howard) who passed away recently. She has ties to the Ceylon area. She will be missed by family and friends.

The Coffee Lovers group meets from 8:30 to 10 a.m. every Thursday at the banquet room of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. Area residents are invited to join them for coffee and fellowship.

The Ceylon Area Historical Society will have its annual meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 4, at the Portage Bank in Ceylon. All members are encouraged to attend. The Directors of the Historical Society are Ronnie Leiding, Jim Plumhoff, Greg Bents, Marilyn Stelter, Ann (Wenzel) Yackle and Steven Houfer. Thank you for your service to the community.

The Helping Hands of Ceylon non-profit group has taken over the organization and delivery of the Heaven’s Table Food Boxes in Ceylon. Anyone who signs up for February boxes should call (507) 236-7850 by the second Thursday of the month. More information about the income guidelines will be available with the application. The delivery will be on the third Tuesday at 209 West Street (the back door of Chris Griffin’s house). The call is necessary each month at that number. Thank you to the group for their community help.

I am not a lover of winter, so I start thinking Spring thoughts around November. There are less than 60 days to official spring. It is a little early to look for signs of spring but one consolation is that next week is the last week of January, so can spring be far behind?
