Helping Hands delivering food boxes

CEYLON — Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon will have services at 5:30 p.m. tonight, Jan. 17 with communion. They have services on the first and third Saturday evenings. They also invite area residents to join them for Bible Study at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert will have 10 a.m. services and their partner church, St. John, in Sherburn will have 8 a.m. services on Sunday, Jan. 18. The Circle of Faith churches will have Sunday services at 9 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran in Welcome and 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran in Trimont. St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn has services at 5 p.m. today, Jan. 17. Area residents are welcome to join these congregations for services.

The Welcome Legion will have the Cribbage Tournament beginning with registration at 1:15 p.m. today, Jan. 17. Registration dues, $11, are paid back as prizes. All area cribbage players are welcome to join the afternoon of fun. The tournaments will be on the second and third Saturdays until spring.

The Coffee Lovers group meets from 8:30 to 10 a.m. every Thursday at the banquet room of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. Area residents are invited to join them for coffee and fellowship.

The Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon will have bingo at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18 and line dancing at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 31.

The Helping Hands of Ceylon non-profit group has taken over organization and delivery of the Heaven’s Table Food Boxes in Ceylon. The next pick up date is Jan. 20 for those who signed up. To sign up for future pickups, call the Helping Hands of Ceylon at (507) 236-7850 by Feb. 12. Pick up will be available from 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 17 at the back door of 209 West Street in Ceylon. Call each month before the second Thursday to order boxes. There is an income guideline. Everyone is welcome to sign up. If the ordered box cannot be picked up, call the number to make arrangements. Thank you to the Helping Hands of Ceylon for distributing groceries from Heaven’s Table Food Shelf.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is on Monday, Jan. 19. There will be no mail and some businesses are closed.

Ruby’s Pantry grocery distribution will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19 at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. There are no residential or income guidelines for the trunkful of groceries, which costs $25.

CREST’s Lunch and Learn will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at First Lutheran Church in Trimont, with a program about home health care and lunch following. These programs are free to senior citizens in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation for the lunch and/or their programs.

The Ceylon Area Historical Society will have its annual meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 4 at the Portage Bank in Ceylon. All members are urged to attend.

American Red Cross blood drives will be on Jan. 22 and 23 in St. James, Jan. 28 in Armstrong, Jan. 30 in Truman, Feb. 9 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont and on Feb. 10 and 11 at Best Western in Fairmont.
