Jan. 19 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day

WELCOME — The Welcome Legion will have the Cribbage Tournament beginning with registration at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17. Registration dues, $11, are paid back as prizes. All area cribbage players are welcome to join the afternoon of fun. The tournaments will be on the second and third Saturdays until spring.

The Circle of Faith Parishes will have services at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome followed by their annual meeting, and at 10:30 a.m. the services will be at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. The St. Paul’s Community Church will have 9:30 a.m. services. Area residents are welcome to join these congregations for services.

The Lake Promenaders Square Dance Club will have special Square Dance Lessons from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 804 West 1st Street in Welcome. Any area resident is welcome to try square dancing with them. It is fun and easy. If you can walk, you can square dance. Any questions, call Cheryl Bebernes at (507) 236-0255. They plan to have square dancing on Jan. 25.

Condolences to the families of Bruce Whitman and Allene Anderson (Trimont), who passed away recently. They will be missed by family and friends.

The Welcome City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at City Hall. There is always a time for public comments/questions at the beginning of each meeting with no prior reservations. To be on the regular agenda, please contact the City Hall at (507) 728-8740 before the meeting date. All members are urged to attend.

A CREST Lunch and Learn program will be at 11 a.m. on Jan. 21 at the First Lutheran Church in Trimont. The program will be about home health care. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.

Just a reminder that, Monday, Jan. 19 is a holiday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There will be no mail and some businesses may not be open.
