Cribbage tournaments on Saturday
SHERBURN — The CREST Lunch and Learn will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Jan. 7 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. This program is about home health care and will be presented by Ashley and Kory Brown of Midwest Valley Home Care. There will be a home cooked lunch following the program. RSVP was required on Jan. 5. CREST programs are free to senior citizens in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.
Hamburger Night will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Jan. 7 at the Sherburn Legion Hall. Get a burger, salad and beans for only $10. What a delicious deal.
St. John’s Lutheran Church and partner church in Wilbert will have a joint service at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11 and a call meeting concerning a new pastor following the service. Sunday the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn will have their service 10 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11. The Circle of Faith parishes will have a joint service at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome at 9 a.m, and a work session at the Heaven’s Table Food Shelf in Fairmont will follow. The St. Luke’s Catholic Church is on their January to March schedule so they meet on Saturdays at 5 p.m. The St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome meets at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays. Area residents are welcome to join these congregations for services.
The Martin County West (MCW) School Board will change their meeting date to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.
The Cribbage Tournaments will be held Saturday, Jan. 10 and 17 beginning at 1:15 p.m. with registration at the Welcome Legion Hall. All cribbage players are welcome to join the fun.

Sherburn resident, Marlene Gettler, will celebrate her 90th birthday in February, and will have an open house at 2 p.m. on Feb. 7 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Congratulations to these two milestone birthday girls.
The Sherburn Theatre will show “David” at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9 and Saturday, Jan. 10 and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11. Plan to attend. Tickets are $5 and a concession stand is available.
A retirement party for Officer Sergeant Gina Jorgensen from the Welcome/Sherburn Police Department and formerly a Martin County law enforcement staff will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9 at the law enforcement center in Fairmont and from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9 at Sherburn City Hall. The public is welcome to come and eat cake and wish Gina a happy retirement. Thanks for your 37 years of service to the area, Officer Jorgensen.
The Christmas Tree Recycling will end Friday, Jan. 10. The two drop off places are Sherburn Nursery and the City Shop on Margaret Street in Fairmont. Thank you to those businesses for providing a drop-off place. Please bring only real trees, no roping or wreaths.
The Affidavits of Candidacy for Township offices are due by Tuesday, Jan. 13 to the clerk of the township of your choice, where you live. Consider serving in the grass roots of our area.
Please stay away from open water on area lakes that are doing an aeration system project. Watch for warning signs on South Cedar Lake, North Cedar Lake and Big Twin Lake in this area.
The Martin County West Athletes are ready for 2026 with various games scheduled. Jan. 8 Gymnastics will be at St. Peter; the Wrestling team will compete in a Triangular in Fairmont at 5 p.m.; the Hockey Boys team will be at the Fairmont arena vs Marshall and the Girls Hockey team will travel to Marshall for a 7 p.m. game; the Girls Basketball team will be in Sherburn vs Fairmont at 7 p.m. On Jan. 9, the Boys Basketball team will travel to Madelia for a 7 p.m. game. Jan. 10, the Wrestling team will compete at the Big South Championship in Marshall at 10 a.m. On Jan. 12, the Basketball teams will compete with the Boys team traveling to Cleveland and the Girls team at Sherburn. Jan. 13 the Wrestlers will be in Luverne at 5 p.m.; Gymnastics will be in Blue Earth; The Girls Basketball team will go to Madelia for 7 p.m. game; and the Boys Hockey team will go to Redwood Valley for a 7 p.m. game.
