Welcome City Council to meet Jan. 6
WELCOME — The Circle of Faith Parishes will change to their January schedule of services with a 9 a.m. service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome and a 10:30 a.m. service at First Lutheran Church in Trimont each Sunday. On Jan. 11, the parishes will have a Joint service at 9 a.m. at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome and then will go to Heaven’s Table Food Shelf and do cleaning and stocking as needed. This is a God’s Work our Hands project from the parishes. The Sunday School will resume this Sunday, Jan. 4 and the Parish Council will meet Jan. 13. St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome will continue their Sunday services at 9:30 a.m. St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn will have services on Saturdays at 5 p.m. in January to March. Area residents are welcome to join any of these congregations for services.
The Welcome City Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on Jan. 6 at the City Hall. There is always time for public comments/questions at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, please contact the City Clerk at (507) 728-8740 prior to the meeting date.
The CREST Lunch and Learn will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 7 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. This program will be offered in Fairmont on Jan. 12 and in Trimont on Jan. 21. These are free to senior citizens in Martin County. Donations for the lunch and for CREST are appreciated. The Sherburn Theatre will feature “David” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The Cribbage Tournaments are scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m. with registration on the second and third Saturdays of the month (Jan. 10 and 17) at the Welcome Legion Hall. The registration dues ($11) are all paid back in prizes. All cribbage fans in the area are welcome to join the fun afternoon.
An opportunity to recycle real Christmas trees from Prairieland Recycling is available until Jan. 10 with drop off sites at Sherburn Nursery and the City Shop in Fairmont on Margaret Street. Please drop off only real trees and remove any tree stands, ornaments, lights, etc. Please no roping or wreaths.
Affidavits of Candidacy for Township offices should be turned in to the clerk of the township you live in by Jan. 13. Consider serving your township at the grass roots level.
The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church will meet for snacks, fun and fellowship at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 12 at the church in Sherburn. Bring a snack. This is open to all residents. Membership at St. John’s is not required.
The Ruby’s Pantry grocery distribution will be at from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 19 in the parking lot of the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn (south of Interstate 90). There are no residential or income guidelines and $25 will get a trunk full of grocery items.
