Upcoming area Christmas church services

SHERBURN — A CREST Lunch and Learn will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at the First Lutheran Church in Trimont, with a lunch to follow the Christmas Bingo program. These are free to senior citizens in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation for the lunch.

The Sherburn Legion will have its Hamburger Night from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight. Get a burger, beans, and salad for $10.

St. John’s Lutheran Church will have an Advent service at 6 p.m. tonight, followed by a meal by the youth group. The Sunday School students will go to the Temperance Lake Ridge at 9:20 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21.

Condolences to the family of Janet Holtz, who passed away recently. She will be missed by family and many friends.

The Sherburn Theatre will feature “David” at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday. There is a concession stand available and tickets are $5.

The American Red Cross blood drive will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19 and from noon to 6 p.m. on Dec. 30 at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont. Santa Day will be held in Ceylon from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, across from the post office. The Helping Hands of Ceylon will sponsor a holiday lights contest for Ceylon residents to be judged on Dec. 20.

A Memory Cafe meeting for supporting family and caregivers of dementia patients will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 22 at the Temperance Lake Ridge facility in Sherburn.

The Sherburn/Welcome Police Department would like to thank all those who participated and helped with the Shop with a Cop program on Thursday, Dec. 11. There are pictures and a letter from the Chief on Facebook. He reminds all that this is done only by generous donations.

The Martin County West Schools will have an early dismissal on Dec. 19 and Jan 2 so the next day for school after winter break will be Jan. 5. The MCW athletes are busier than ever.

Area churches will have special Christmas services. The Regional Worship Center in Sherburn will have a special service at their 10 a.m. Dec. 21 service. St. Luke’s Catholic Church will have Christmas Day services at 8:30 a.m. and plans to have a New Years Eve service at 5:30 p.m. St. John’s Lutheran Church is having a family service on Christmas Eve at 5 p.m. and a candlelight service that night at 9 p.m. with communion. Their partner church St. Paul’s in Wilbert will have a 7 p.m. candlelight/communion service at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve. Circle of Faith congregations each have their own Christmas Eve services: St. Peter Lutheran in Ceylon at 5 p.m. and Waverly Lutheran north of Welcome at 5:30 p.m. while Trinity Lutheran in Welcome is at 6:30 p.m. and First Lutheran in Trimont is at 7 p.m. St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome will have Christmas Eve services at 6:30 p.m. Area residents are welcome to join any of these churches in celebration of the birth of Christ.

In upcoming events:

The Sherburn Lions invite area residents to their New Year’s Eve Steak, Shrimp or Pork Chop supper from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Sherburn Legion Hall. A salad bar and baked potato will be served with the entree of your choice. Snacks will begin at 4 p.m. Celebrate the beginning of a new year with the Sherburn Lions.
