Winter events approaching

SHERBURN — A CREST Lunch and Learn program will be at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 3 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn, with a Christmas Bingo, and followed by a lunch including chicken salad croissant, potato soup, carrots and a Christmas dessert. These programs are free to senior citizens in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation for the lunch.

Hamburger Night will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 3 at the Sherburn Legion Hall. Get a burger, salad and beans for only $10.

Ham Bingo will be at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.) on Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. Sounds like fun. The Trimont Town Center will have a tree lighting event at 6 p.m. on Dec. 7 and will serve apple cider, cocoa and cookies from 4 to 6 p.m.

More fun Christmas events in the area are scheduled. The Sherburn Theatre will have a free movie “Zootopia 2” sponsored by the Sherburn Civic and Commerce group and the Fox Lake Conservation District. The showtimes are at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7. Thank you to those groups for sponsoring the movie.

Dec. 7 is going to be a busy day. Several events are planned for that day. The Sherburn Lions will have a Pancakes with Santa from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 7 at the Martin County West cafeteria, with an opportunity to take a photo with Santa. Dunnell Community Hall will have hotdogs, cookies to decorate, games and crafts, cocoa and a storytime with Mrs. Claus from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 7. The Circle of Faith Parishes will present their choir cantata at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome at their 10:30 a.m. service that day. First Lutheran Church in Trimont will have their Carol Sing at 6:30 p.m. There is almost anything you want to do that day.

The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn are planning a day trip to a Branson Family Christmas Show on Dec. 6 in LeMars, Iowa. Hope the weather is good for them.

The Martin County West (MCW) Schools have many sports events scheduled beginning Thursday, Dec. 4, with Gymnastics at Marshall at 6 p.m. and a Wrestling Triangular Meet at Worthington at 6 p.m. Girls Hockey will play Waseca at the Fairmont Arena at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 the Boys Basketball will play at Truman vs GHEC-TML at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, there will be a Wrestling tournament at Blue Earth at 10 a.m. and Girls Hockey at Fairmont Arena vs Winona at 1 p.m. On Dec. 8 the Boys Basketball team will play at Sherburn vs Nicollet at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 the Grade 3-6 Christmas Concert will be at 6 p.m. at Trimont School. Dec. 9 is also the date for the Girl’s Hockey game at Fairmont arena vs Luverne at 5:30 p.m. The Gymnastics team will be in Jackson at 6 p.m. on Dec. 29 and the Boys Hockey will play at Blue Mound vs Luverne at 7 p.m. The Girls Basketball team will travel to Mankato, Dec. 9, to play Loyola at 7 p.m. Good Luck Mavericks.

The Thanksgiving weekend snowstorm was a reminder that cars must be off the street until the snow is cleared curb to curb for the safety of the residents and the city workers. Thank you for your cooperation.
