FAIRMONT — The Red Rock Center for the Arts in Fairmont has introduced local self-taught artist Sydney Wren, featuring 26 artworks during the special artist reception event on Sunday afternoon at the Red Rock Center for the Arts in Fairmont.
“It’s an honor to have a show here,” Wren said.
Her portfolio consists of mixed media resin, epoxy and raw materials (glass, rocks, sand) reflecting various vibrant Earthly minerals and landscapes.
Wren said she has been making art as long as she can remember, harboring talent from her glass-staining artist grandmother. She pursued her original art style following high school, advancing her art education as a Graphic Design major at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design (RMCAD) in Denver, Colorado. After finding a vocation in more hands-on work, Wren stepped away from digital work and explored her current craft. She explained that positive reception has driven her to keep creating.
“The way people look at my artwork and comment on my artwork really inspires me to do more,” Wren shared.
With the reception and exhibit, Wren hopes to open viewers’ eyes to ‘nature’s beauty’, as she described.
“My main inspiration is going to be Earth, honestly. The geodes, the rocks, the minerals have always been my favorite. I worked in jewelry for quite some time and fell in love with a variety of gemstones. Most of my pieces are to represent a specific type of gemstone, which is why I use rocks in my pieces as well. I would say rocks and minerals, what God created,” Wren said with a smile.
At the time of writing, Wren reported that she had sold eight pieces of artwork, which were displayed at the event.
“To have somebody purchase something that I have created myself and for them to willingly put it up in their home for hopefully many generations to enjoy, it’s very exciting. It’s overwhelming, but it’s a very good feeling,” Wren said.
The first art show by Wren is now in the bag. When asked about future endeavors involving her artwork, Wren agreed she sees herself continuing to hold more events, exhibits and overall contribute to the Fairmont community art scene.
“I have a lot of people who could not attend, traveling outside of town and whatnot. And I told them, ‘This is not going to be the last show’. I hope this is the first of many. And they’ve already asked me to schedule a time next year, so yes. I am very excited for more shows,” she said.
Since she moved into the area in March 2025, having previously lived in Nebraska, Colorado and California, she said she’s enjoyed being a citizen and is happy to be here permanently.
“Ever since we moved here, it’s just felt like home, and the art community has been so inviting and welcoming. I have never experienced this before. It’s an honor,” Wren said.
