Festivities in Fairmont tonight
WELCOME — The Glows Parade will be at 6 p.m. today, Nov. 21 from Downtown Plaza to Lincoln Park in Fairmont. Jackson will have a winter parade on Nov. 28.
Area churches have not scheduled Thanksgiving Day services. St. John’s Lutheran in Sherburn and St. Paul’s Lutheran in Wilbert have scheduled Thanksgiving Eve communion services. The St. John’s service is at 6 p.m. and Wilbert’s is at 7:30 p.m. No other churches in the are have scheduled services. Sunday, Nov. 23, St.John’s Lutheran in Sherburn will have a joint service with St. Paul’s from Wilbert as that is the last service Pastor Wilson will officiate. The two congregations are the only invited congregations.
Condolences to the families of Todd Plumhoff and Michael “Mickey” Lutz from Welcome and Ken Cutler from Trimont, who passed away recently. They will be missed by family and friends.
The Lake Promenaders Square Dance group will meet on Sunday, Nov. 23 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The next local meet will be Dec. 14.
A Santa Workshop will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 30 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. Free movie, crafts, photos with Santa, and cookies and treats.
The American Red Cross Blood drives will be held on Nov. 25 and 26 at the Best Western in Fairmont, Dec. 1 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont and at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. Blood is urgently needed.
The Advent season begins on Nov. 30 so most of the upcoming events are in December and about Christmas. The Welcome Post Office reminds all to mail early, especially packages you need to get to the address by Christmas. Suggested ship by dates are before Dec. 20. Go to usps.com/sendjoy to buy stamps or ship from home etc. The Welcome Post Office window hours are 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and one hour on Saturday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The lobby is open 24 hours.
There will be a Ham Bingo at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.) on Dec. 4 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont.
The Civic and Commerce Club in Sherburn and the Sherburn Theatre will show a free movie, “Zootopia 2” at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7.
The Sherburn Lions will have a Pancakes with Santa from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Martin County West (MCW) High School Cafeteria. Free photos with Santa.
Dunnell will have a Supper with Santa from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Community Hall. Hot dogs, chips and treats, storytime with Mrs. Claus, cookie decorating, games and crafts and hot cocoa. This is for all ages.
The Waverly Lutheran Church will have a Christmas Canata service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7 and the First Lutheran Church in Trimont will have an Advent Carol Sing at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7. Singing at Christmas is great.
The Welcome/Sherburn Police Department will have a Shop with a Cop program for children to shop for their families on Dec. 11. Any donations are appreciated and should be sent to Welcome Fire Relief Association with Shop with a Cop on the memo if writing a check since the Fire Department is processing donations. Mail to 103 Campbell Street, Welcome, MN 56181 by Dec. 1 or call (507) 764-4221 and the donation will be picked up.
Welcome’s Santa Day will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 14 at the Welcome Legion Hall. There are plans for hot dogs, crafts, coloring contest and photos with Santa by Chelsie Wink. There will be a fire truck and police car to see also. Any questions, contact Amanda Kleinschmidt or Kristie Cook.
Oyster and Chili Feed with silent auction will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 14, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus at St. Luke’s. Plan to attend.
