Lake Belt to host post-Halloween event
CEYLON — The cribbage tournaments begin at 1:15 p.m., today, Nov. 8, and Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Welcome Legion Hall. All registration dues are paid back in prizes. The public is welcome. Spend a fun afternoon playing cribbage with friends.
Quilters are invited to help the Old Alley Quilt Shop in Sherburn celebrate their 21st anniversary at 10 a.m. in the community room, beneath the theatre. There will be quilt displays and rummage sale of quilting supplies. Quilters for Missions may be interested in some bargains there. There will be sales at the store across the street also. Congratulations.
The Our Savior’s Lutheran Church will have services at 5:30 p.m. tonight, Nov. 8, with communion. They have Bible Study at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays. Area residents are welcome to join them.
The Lake Belt Bar and Grill will have a post-Halloween Party tonight, Nov. 8. They announced that they will be open on Sundays starting tomorrow, Nov. 9, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Greet the new owners and help decorate the bar with your memorabilia. They also have line dancing lessons planned for Nov. 15 and the Fat City All-Stars band for Nov. 26.
Condolences to the family of Richard Leiding, former Ceylon/Wilbert area resident, who passed
away recently. He will be missed by family and friends. Gone too soon.
The Ceylon City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the City Hall. All members are encouraged to attend. Veterans Day is Nov. 11 and we would like to thank all Veterans for their service to our country. We all know freedom isn’t free and appreciate their willingness to serve.
The Ladies group, LWML, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert will have their meeting at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 13. They are discussing the projects for next year and have election of President and Treasurer for 2026-2027. All members are encouraged to attend. They are also collecting monetary donations for the Heaven’s Table Food Shelf during November and ask the congregation to help them collect this much needed help, especially now.
A public farewell open house will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the Fox Lake Event Center, north of Sherburn to wish Pastor Steve Wilson and his wife Bonnie a fond farewell. The congregations will have a special joint service on Nov. 23, the last service for Pastor Wilson. The two churches will begin having one service at each church on Nov. 30. St. John’s in Sherburn will have an 8 a.m. service and St. Paul’s in Wilbert will have a 10 a.m. service until a new pastor is hired.
St. John’s in Sherburn is planning a bus trip to Lemars, Iowa for a special Branson-like event called The Brown Family Christmas on Dec. 6. The deadline to sign up for the bus trip is Nov. 19. Contact Mary Johnson at (507) 399-1424 for more information and to sign up for the fun day trip.

Ruby’s Pantry grocery distribution will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 at the parking lot of the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. There are no income or residential requirements.
A CREST Lunch and Learn program will be at 11 a.m. on Nov. 19 at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. These programs are free to senior citizens in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free will donation for the lunch.
The American Red Cross blood drives will be held on Nov. 7 at the Fairmont High School and on Nov. 25 and 26 at the Best Western in Fairmont, and on Dec. 1 at St. John Vianney Catholic School and Church in Fairmont and the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn.
