Faribault Co. highlights Operation Green Light
BLUE EARTH– It may be a little green outside of the Faribault County Courthouse for the next week.
Veteran Services Officer Jennifer Howard and Buildings and Grounds supervisor Saxton Warmka attended the County Board meeting on Tuesday to tell the commissioners about a program called Operation Green Light.
“Operation Green Light is a national campaign to encourage the public to show support for veterans by displaying a green light from Nov. 4 to Nov.11,” Howard said. “Green means moving forward. We see you (the veterans). We recognize you.”
Warmka said the green lights they had installed in some of the outside fixtures would remain illuminated through Veterans Day.
It was also mentioned that individuals and businesses can also participate in Operation Green Light by changing one light in a person’s home or business to green for the specified week.
“We could look at expanding the project to other public offices in the future,” county coordinator Brian Hov offered.
This year Operation Green Light, first launched by the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) in 2021, marks its fifth anniversary. The program is now led by the National Association (NACo) of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO).
In addition to local community partners supporting the initiative, NACo and NACVSO have once again joined with Amazon as a national partner for Operation Green Light. Amazon is lighting up 250 operations sites and buildings across the country and encouraging counties to support veterans year-round by purchasing supplies from veteran-owned businesses in a dedicated Amazon Business storefront.
The Martin County Board of Commissioners also acknowledged Operation Green Light during its meeting on Tuesday.
