Sherburn City Council talks snow removal

SHERBURN — The Sherburn City Council met on Monday evening and discussed snow blowing for this winter around Highway 4 downtown and the elementary school building on 5th Street. The state removes the snow since the highway is their road but does it when they can schedule it and this year plan to move it to the sides. The school had, in the past, said they would help pay snow removal from 5th Street middle snow piles but the city has not received any compensation from them. The council requested that Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) be asked for a contract to see exactly what they were to do and what the city was to do.

Clerk Andrea Ballard’s report included a variety of information including the auction of forfeiture properties (six) and one that has an eviction to do first. The Fire Department roof was inspected and a few holes repaired (flashing) but the 13 holes in the membrane were not repaired and it will have to be a membrane repair/replacement in the future. Ballard will get an estimate of costs.

Ballard reported on unclaimed property and lead and copper monitoring. The levels are acceptable for the city water supply. The Public Works report stated that the trees that needed to be trimmed were done. The liquor store staff update was given. The township contracts with the Fire Department were reviewed. The Theatre had no heat recently and the reason was discovered and repaired. The smoke detectors had tripped the heat to shut down.

The townhomes are now property of Bart Property LLC. The Fire Truck is in progress and City is waiting to have more information.

In other business:

— The council approved payroll reports, general fund receipts, minutes, checks and utility bill adjustments.

— The council discussed the Westrum Company’s report on hydrant leaks. Two more hydrants are leaking and they have been put on a schedule to fix/replace with two quotes received. Two non-operable hydrants are being replaced from reports earlier.

— The Leaf Pick up was discussed. A resident of Jackson has offered to rent a Case IH tractor for less than rent from an implement was and the council approved that contract. There was also discussion about buying a payloader and eliminating three or four pieces of equipment.

— The council discussed and approved a warranty deed drawn up by the City Attorney to award parcel 120.18.1400 to Sherburn Cemetery Association from the City ownership.

— The council discussed an electric workers union proposal for the city employees.

The Council went into closed session. The Sherburn City Council’s next meeting will be at 5 p.m. Nov. 17 at Sherburn City Hall.
