Halloween events approaching soon

SHERBURN — Next week will be the last week of October, with Nov. 1 being next Saturday.

There are Trunk and Treats scheduled for area towns, including Sherburn. On Oct. 25, there will be a Trunk and Treat by the Sinn Family CLC in Sherburn from 1-3 p.m., sponsored by the Lions Club. In Ceylon, the Trunk and Treat is on Oct. 25 from 1-3 p.m. on Main Street, sponsored by the Helping Hands of Ceylon. The Welcome Trunk and Treat is on Oct. 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. near the Welcome Legion Hall on Dugan Street, and the Dunnell Trunk and Treat is on Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the lot by the Community Buildings, sponsored by the Fire Department. The Regional Worship Center in Sherburn will have a Fall Fest on Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. Thank you to these non-profits for scheduling a safe and fun event for Halloween for children.

A CREST Volunteer Training session will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23 at the Fairmont office at 820 Winnebago Avenue. Contact the office for further information at (507) 235-3833. Consider volunteering some time for CREST.

The Sherburn Theatre will feature the movie “Regretting You”, a new release about youth and family relationships, for this weekend and the next weekend. Showtimes are at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 4 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $5, and there is a concession stand available.

The American Red Cross blood drives will be on Friday, Oct. 24, at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont and Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Truman Community Center. The Sherburn Community Chest accepts donations during October at Bank Midwest or by mail to PO Box 504, Sherburn, MN 56171. The funds collected will be used in Sherburn. Be generous and help neighbors in need.

The Sherburn Lions will have a Pancake Breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the High School Cafeteria. They will serve pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and a beverage. The cost will be a free-will donation (they suggest $8 or more) and the proceeds will support the Healing Hearts recovery home in Sherburn. The recovery home helps women live a great life free of drug or alcohol use with on-site peer recovery and gym, coaches for recovery and a safe place to stay. Memory Cafe will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 27, at Temperance Lake Ridge. This is a support group for caregivers and families of patients with dementia of any kind.

Congratulations to area residents, Darwin Anthony, who celebrated his 90th birthday recently, and Elmer and Lois Wendt, who celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Oct. 20. Cards will reach the Wendts at 1600 Lake Aires Road, Fairmont, MN 56031. Both are impressive milestones.

The annual Turkey Dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 2 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome

The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church will meet at 11 a.m. on Nov. 3 at the church for a potluck Thanksgiving lunch. Please bring a dish to pass. Area residents are welcome to join them for lunch. Membership at St. John’s is not required.

St. John’s Lutheran Youth Group sells Christmas greenery and centerpieces (swags, garlands, wreaths, porch pots and more) during October. They will be delivered on Nov. 24. Contact any youth member or the church for further information.
