Community Chest Annual Drive is underway
SHERBURN — A CREST Lunch and Learn will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sinn Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. These fun and educational programs are free to senior citizens from Martin County. A free will donation is appreciated.
Hamburger Night will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Sherburn Legion. The menu includes a hamburger, salad and baked beans for only $10.
Condolences to the family of Robert “Bob” Anderson, formerly from Dunnell, who passed away recently. He will be missed by family and friends.
If you see students doing service projects or walking around, there is no school at Martin County West schools for MEA Break from Oct. 16 to Oct. 20. The next day for school will be Oct. 21. A teachers’ workshop will be on Oct. 20. There is early dismissal at 12:30 p.m. today.
The football team will travel to Cleveland tonight. The volleyball team has first round playoffs on Oct. 21 and will have a conference game on Oct. 22 at Mankato Loyola. The MCW School Board is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on Oct. 20.
The Trimont Farmer’s Market will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the Memorial Park in Trimont. Activities include pumpkin painting, coffee, goodies, social time, fundraiser for MCW books for kids and vendors. There is a playground nearby too.
The Sherburn Theatre will feature “The Senior” at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday. It is a film about football. Check it out. Tickets are $5 and a concession stand is available.
The City Hall is looking for a large frame tractor of 195 HP to rent from November to April to help with snow removal and more. Call (507) 764-4491 by Friday morning if you are interested in renting your tractor to the city.
The City Council is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the City Hall. There is always time for public comment/questions at the beginning of each meeting, but to be on the regular agenda, contact the City Hall prior to the meeting date.
Martin Luther High School in Northrop will have its annual Fall Rummage and Bake Sale from 4 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 16, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 17 and from 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 18 (bag day). This is always a good spot to find clothes and everything else.
Ruby’s Pantry Grocery Distribution will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn (south of Interstate 90). $25 can get a trunk full of groceries. There are no residential or income guidelines. If there are any boxes available, bring them to the volunteers at the beginning of the line.
The American Red Cross blood drives will be on Oct. 20 at Martin Luther High School, Oct. 24 at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont and Oct. 28 at the Truman Community Center. There are only two Coffee Hours left from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Oct. 21 and Oct. 28 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for great fellowship.
The Community Chest Annual Drive is underway in October in Sherburn. This once a year campaign helps fund important community programs for local families. Every dollar stays in this community. The Heritage Acres Harvest Festival will be from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Heritage Acres in Fairmont.
The Lions Pancake Breakfast will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the MCW high school cafeteria. Free-will donations will be accepted. An $8 donation is suggested. Proceeds will benefit the Healing Hearts recovery home in Sherburn. The menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and a beverage. Healing Hearts is a non-profit dedicated to helping women rebuild their lives after addiction through support like peer mentoring, skills training, transportation, providing a safe and supportive environment that promotes healing, accountability and long term sobriety. The Regional Worship Center will also have a Harvest Fest from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 26. Activities include a $1 cake walk, bonfire, s’mores, inflatables, face painting, photo area and games. The meal includes sloppy joes, sloppy nachos, caramel apples and more.
