Burger Night on Saturday

TRUMAN — The Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguar volleyball team has a game at 7 p.m. tonight, Oct. 9, in Mountain Lake.

The GHEC/Truman Jaguar football game against Heron Lake Okabena/Gulda will be at 7 pm on Friday, Oct. 10, at Fulda High School.

The Farmers’ Market will be from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Graf Park in Truman. You can find things from eggs, apples, pies, baked goods, jewelry, fresh produce and handmade greeting cards.

Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape during Fire Prevention Week from Oct 5 to Oct. 11. Everyone needs to be prepared in advance, so that they know what to do when the smoke alarm sounds. Have a plan for everyone in the home.

The Truman Fire Department will have its annual Burger Night from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Fire Hall. Come see the fire hall, enjoy a wood-fired burger, condiments, chips, cookies and a beverage. You can get burgers to go, or they will deliver to fields or homes in their fire district area. Free-will donations are accepted. We sure do appreciate our firefighters. Thank you.

The Martin Luther High School in Northrop’s Fall Rummage and Bake Sale from Oct. 16 to Oct. 18. Donations will be accepted on Saturday, Oct. 11. Volunteer help is very much appreciated.

Truman Active Living will meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Truman Museum. Anyone wishing to assist in the betterment of our community is welcome to attend.

Second Harvest Heartland, a nutrition assistance program for seniors, will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Come to Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman to pick up your box. Eligibility is based on age, 60 years and up, household size and income. Pre-register by contacting 1-800-365-0270.

Lewisville Commercial Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the legion.

October is National Pork Month. Thank you, pork producers, for all you do. October is also cosmetology month. Thank you to all the amazing stylists in our lives.

American Red Cross blood drives will be from 1 to 6 pm on Oct. 13, at the Presbyterian Church in Amboy, 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the Martin Luther High School in Northrop and from noon to 6 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the Truman Community Center. Truman Public School will not have school on Thursday, Oct. 16 and Oct. 17 because of MEA. There will be no school for Truman Public School students on Monday, Oct. 20. Parent-Teacher conferences will be held from 1 to 7 p.m.

In celebration of the United States of America’s 250th birthday in 2026, Truman Fire will be bringing back fireworks in July of 2026. The Truman Fire Department will be organizing and collecting funds to put on the display. If you would like to contribute to this, make checks out to the Truman Fire Department Relief Association, and in the memo line, write Fireworks. There will also be an account set up at Profinium Bank if you would prefer to deposit funds there. Please remember that a donation can also be made as a memorial. Please indicate if you want your donation to go as a memorial.
