Steak Fry Night this Saturday
SHERBURN — During the month of October, residents are asked to contribute to the Sherburn Community Chest annual drive. This drive funds community services and programs that make a difference for local families. Every dollar stays in this community. Contributions can be mailed to Sherburn Community Chest at P.O. Box 504, Sherburn, MN 56171 or they can be dropped off at Bank Midwest in Sherburn. Help neighbors in need.
Coffee Hours continue from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in October at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center/Congregational Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for coffee, treats and fellowship. October is the last month.
The St. John’s ladies group LWML will meet at 2 p.m. today at the church in Sherburn. All members are encouraged to attend the meeting. The ladies will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 9 at their partner church in Wilbert.
Condolences to the families of young Crue Blake Crosby and 99-year-old Albert Armbrust who passed away recently. They will be missed by family and many friends.
The Sherburn Steak Fry will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Sherburn Legion Hall. $20 will purchase a steak or shrimp or smoked pork chop, salad bar and garlic toast and a baked potato. Sounds like a delicious way to help the Legion.
The Sherburn Theatre will have show the movie, “The Senior” at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10 and Saturday, Oct. 11, and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12.
The Cribbage Tournaments will begin on Oct. 11 at the Welcome Legion Hall beginning at 1:15 p.m. with registration ($11) which is returned in prizes. Play will begin at 1:30 p.m. for any area cribbage enthusiast. They will continue on Oct. 18. The tournaments will be held the second and third Saturdays of each month from October to March in Welcome. Area residents are welcome to join the afternoon of fun.
The American Red Cross blood drives will be from 1 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 6 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, Oct. 8 at Truman Public Schools, Oct. 28 at the Truman Community Center, from 1 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome, Oct. 20 at Martin Luther High School and Oct. 24 at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont. A CREST Lunch and Learn program will be at 11 a.m. on Oct. 15 at the Sinn Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. The programs are for Martin County senior citizens. CREST appreciates a free-will donation for the lunch.
Martin County West athletes are ready to compete. The football team versus USC on Oct. 9 in Trimont. The cross country and volleyball teams will both compete on Oct. 9 in Madelia. The volleyball team will compete in the Tomahawk Valley Showcase on Oct. 10 and Oct. 11.

The cross country team will compete in the Tomahawk Valley Showcase on Oct. 14 at GFW.The football team will compete on Oct. 15 in Cleveland. Good luck, Mavericks. The MCW schools will have an early dismissal on Oct. 15 and will have no school on Oct. 16 and 17, in observance of MEA.

St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will have Make a Difference Day on Oct. 19 between their services (9:15 to 10:15 a.m.). The church will have a Service Day and will help people with small projects or yardwork on Oct. 26. The Youth at St. John’s is selling Christmas/Holiday Greens to be delivered on Nov. 24. Christmas is less than 90 days away.
The Sherburn Lions will have a Pancake Breakfast at the MCW High School from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 26. Proceeds will help the Healing Hearts Recovery House in Sherburn. The Sherburn Lions will have a Fill the Shelves food drive from 5 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 27 before their meeting that night. Monetary donations may be brought to the meeting.
