Sherburn Legion Pancake Fundraiser this Sunday

WELCOME — Welcome to October, hope your month is great. Remember to be careful during harvest season.

Clean Up Day in Welcome is Oct. 4, and the truck will be behind the Fire Hall on Campbell Street from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. or whenever it is full. Take items to the truck for free. This event is for Welcome residents only. Remember nothing hazardous or toxic, no liquids, paints or yard waste, tires concrete or appliances. Thank you for your cooperation.

The area churches welcome area residents for the month of October on Sunday. The Circle of Faith Parishes will meet at 9 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon and at 10:30 a.m. at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome. St. Paul’s Community Church on Dugan St. will meet at 10 a.m. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will meet at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and their partner church in Wilbert will meet at 9:30 a.m. Join any of these churches for services. St. John’s LWML ladies group will meet at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, and the Friendship Club invites area residents to join them for lunch at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, at the Home Town Cafe in St. James.

The Sherburn Legion will have a Pancake Fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Oct. 5. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, eggs and beverage for a free-will donation to help them defray expenses of the unexpected plumbing repairs. The Minnesota Vikings 8:30 a.m. game in London will be played too. Plan to attend.

Coffee Hours will spend their last month from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in October at Sherburn Congregational Church/Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center at 212 North Prairie in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for coffee and treats and great fellowship on Oct. 7.

The Welcome City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the City Hall. There is always a time for public questions/comments at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, contact the City Hall prior to the date of the meeting at (507) 728-8740.

The American Red Cross blood drives will be from 1 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 6 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, Oct. 8 at Truman Public Schools, Oct. 28 at the Truman Community Center, from 1 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome, Oct. 20 at Martin Luther High School and Oct. 24 at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont. Give blood if you are eligible.

The Cribbage Tournaments will begin on Oct. 11 at the Welcome Legion Hall beginning at 1:15 p.m. with registration ($11) which is returned in prizes. Play will begin at 1:30 p.m. for any area cribbage enthusiast. They will continue on Oct. 18. The tournaments will be held the second and third Saturdays of each month from October to March in Welcome. Area residents are welcome to join the afternoon of fun.

The Welcome Legion Auxiliary Vendor Show will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center/St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome at 314 North Dugan Street. Besides the great items from the vendors there will be barbecue, hotdogs and sweet treats available for a free-will donation. The next CREST Lunch and Learn will be at 11 a.m. on Oct. 15 at First Lutheran Church in Trimont.
