Relay for Life this Saturday

WELCOME — The Martin County Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 13, at the Martin County Fairgrounds in Fairmont. There are many events planned, including a survivor relay walk, luminary memorials, pork meal, O’Scoop’s Ice Cream and more. Plan to attend.

A special birthday event for Marlene Karnatz’s 70th birthday will be at 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 13 at the Welcome Legion Hall. Congratulations, Marlene.

The Trimont Town Center will have a 10th anniversary celebration with a Canaan James concert from 5 to 8 p.m. and food trucks and special drawings on Saturday, Sept. 13. Congratulations on 10 years of business in Trimont.

Tuesday Coffee Hours continue from at 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in September at the St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome. Join friends and neighbors for a cup of coffee and fellowship.

The Lake Promenaders Square Dance Club will dance for King Korn Days from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 behind Silo’67 in Fairmont. They will meet at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Shaw home at 804 West 1st Street in Welcome. Dancers and watchers are always welcome to join them. The burn site in Welcome will be open from 8 a.m. to noon. This is for Welcome residents only and only wood that is 6-inches in diameter or less is to be brought to the burn site.

The Martin County West School board is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15.

The Welcome City Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

The Ruby’s Pantry grocery distribution will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15 at the Regional Worship Center parking lot, south of Interstate 90, in Sherburn.

The Welcome Legion Auxiliary will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15 at the Welcome Legion Hall. All members are encouraged to attend.

The CREST Lunch and Learn program will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the First Lutheran Church in Trimont. The speaker will be Suzy Sunshine. There will be lunch following the speaker. These programs are free to senior citizens in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation for the lunch.

The Red Cross Blood drives will be in Trimont on Oct. 6 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center from 1 to 6 p.m. and at the St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome on Oct.13 from 1 to 6 p.m. Call the 800-733-2767, go online to www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999 to make an appointment now. The Martin County West Athletes will have games this week. The football team will play on Sept. 19 at Lester Prairie. The volleyball team will go to Jackson for their invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13. The volleyball team will play GHEC/T/ML on Sept. 16 and on Sept. 18 they will be in Fairmont. The cross country team will travel to St. Peter at Gustavus College today, Sept. 12, and to Jackson on Sept. 18. Good luck, Mavericks.
