MCW prepared for new school year

SHERBURN — Congratulations to Tom and Diane Nelson who will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Make your presence their only present.

September will arrive this weekend. The Martin County West (MCW) Schools will be starting their 2025-2026 school year on Sept. 2 for grades 7 to 12 and Sept. 4 for kindergarten to 6. Just a reminder to watch at intersections and around buses for children.

The Tuesday Coffee Hours will meet from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Sept.2 at the St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee and treats and great fellowship.

The Civic and Commerce Club are scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 at the Senior Center near the City Hall. All members and interested parties are urged to attend.

The CREST Lunch and Learn program featuring speaker Sunshine Suzy will be at 11 a.m. on Sept. 3 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. She has Down syndrome and is a farmer, entrepreneur and a nationally-known motivational speaker about inclusivity. A lunch will follow the program. CREST appreciates a free-will donation for the lunch. Sunshine Suzy inspires those around her to see beyond the limits and embrace their greater purpose. These educational and fun programs are free to senior citizens in Martin County.

The Sherburn Legion will have its Hamburger Night and FFA bake sale from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 13. The menu includes a burger, salad and baked beans for $10.

The American Red Cross blood drives on Sept. 2 and 3 at the Best Western in Fairmont, Oct. 6 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont and Oct. 13 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome. Blood is urgently needed.

The Circle of Faith Parishes will have a joint service at 9 a.m. on Sept. 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. for all the parishes. After the service, they will go to Heaven’s Table Food Shelf in Fairmont to help clean and stock shelves as their special God’s Work- Our Hands project. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will have a special outdoor service at 10 a.m. on Sept. 7 at Everett Park on Fox Lake, followed by activities and a brunch. The Friendship Club from St. John’s will have a lunch meeting at 11 a.m. on Sept. 8 at The Ranch restaurant in Fairmont. Area residents are welcome to join them. Membership at St. John’s is not required. St. John’s will have special service at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 14 as a Sunday School Rally Day with lunch to follow.

The Mayo Mobile Clinic will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 8 and Sept. 10 near the City Hall in Sherburn. Call the appointment number at (507) 238-8500 and mention Sherburn Clinic. The football team will compete against Mayer Lutheran on Sept. 5 at the football field in Trimont. The cross country team compete on Sept. 6 in Luverne.
