Coffee Hours continue in September
WELCOME — It is the end of August already. Monday is Labor Day. Have a fun and safe holiday. The Welcome City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Sept. 2 at the City Hall. Tuesday Coffee Hours in September will begin from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Sept. 2 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome. Join friends and neighbors for fellowship around a cup of coffee and treats each Tuesday in September.
The American Red Cross blood drives on Sept. 2 and 3 at the Best Western in Fairmont, Oct. 6 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont and Oct. 13 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome. Blood is urgently needed.
The Welcome Historical Society Museum will be open on one more Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 6 They will be closed until April. Appointments can be made by calling Vicki Nelsen at (507) 236-7081. Check out the interesting items from the city and school at the museum on Hulseman Street in Welcome.
The Welcome Burn Site will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 3. Wood six inches in diameter or smaller are accepted. No trash. This is for Welcome residents only. Thank you for the cooperation.
The CREST Lunch and Learn program featuring speaker Sunshine Suzy will be at 11 a.m. on Sept. 3 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. She has Down syndrome and is a farmer, entrepreneur and a nationally-known motivational speaker about inclusivity. A lunch will follow the program. CREST appreciates a free-will donation for the lunch.
The Circle of Faith will have a God’s Work Our Hands project after a special Joint service at 9 a.m. on Sept. 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. They will help the Heaven’s Table Food Shelf in Fairmont clean and restock their shelves. The Circle of Faith Parishes September schedule will begin with services on Sept. 14 at 9 a.m. in Welcome and 10:30 a.m. in Trimont.
Martin County West (MCW) has begun their sports line up although the school classes will not begin until Sept. 2 for grades 7 to 12 and Sept. 4 for all the grades kindergarten to 6. The cross country team will compete today, Aug. 28 in Beresford, South Dakota. The football team will compete today, Aug. 28 in Windom. The football team will compete against Mayer Lutheran on Sept. 5 at the football field in Trimont. The cross country team compete on Sept. 6 in Luverne. The volleyball will compete with Mountain Lake on Sept. 2. Good luck, Mavericks.
A Tailgate Party by the MCW Booster Club will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 at Trimont Field. The menu includes pork chops on a stick, chips, cookies and water for $8. Support the MCW Booster Club.
The Lake Promenaders Square Dance Club will host an open house on Sept. 11 at the Cedar Park Shelter House in Fairmont. They plan a potluck meal at 6:30 p.m. and dancing. This is open to the public to acquaint the area with their unique dancing club. Plan to attend.
