Burn Site open today
WELCOME — Today is a busy Friday. The Welcome Legion will have its Chicken and Corn membership dinner tonight, beginning at 5 p.m. with social hour and a 6 p.m. meal. Memberships are due, and there will be a drawing for $50 gift cards from among the members who have paid. The dinner is open to the public. Members are free, and the cost to the public is $10 for those ages 13 and up and $5 for those under 13. Plan to attend. Sounds yummy and for a good cause.
The American Red Cross blood drives will be today, Aug. 22 at the American Legion Hall in downtown Fairmont, on Sept. 2 and Sept. 3 at the Best Western in Fairmont and on Oct. 6 in Trimont. Call the 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767) number, go online at www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999 to make an appointment or locate a blood drive in the area.
The Welcome Burn Site will be open from 8 a.m. to noon. Today, Aug. 22. This is only for Welcome residents. Only wood that is six inches in diameter may be brought. The city reminds residents that lawns must be mowed and not discharged into the storm sewer via the street curb. They thank residents for their cooperation when a large amount of rain fell last weekend.
The Tuesday Coffee Hours continue from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in August at St. John’s Lutheran Church, on the south end of Main Street in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for fellowship with a cup of coffee and treats. The Tuesday Coffee Hours in September will be held at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome.
The Circle of Faith Parishes will have a special service at 9 a.m. on Sept. 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. This will be a joint worship for all the parishes. After the service, the congregation will visit Heaven’s Table food shelf in Fairmont to help clean and stock shelves with items for two hours as a God’s Work Our Hands project.
The Lake Promenaders Square Dance Club will have an open house at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the Cedar Creek Park shelter house in Fairmont. Discussion and dancing will follow the potluck meal, provided by the club members. The club will dance for King Korn Days from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 13 at Silo’67 bar and grill in Fairmont. The club’s regular meetings will begin Sept. 14 in Welcome, and will continue on the second and fourth Sundays. Sounds like a busy club. Dancers and watchers are welcome.
The Martin County Relay for Life is scheduled for Sept. 13 at the Martin County Fairgrounds in Fairmont. Get your team together and plan to attend the American Cancer Society fundraiser.
