Ceylon anniversary celebrations this weekend

CEYLON — The Ceylon Quasquicentennial/125th Anniversary Festival is this weekend. Line Dancing, Bingo, and Door 49 were at the Lake Belt Bar and Grill, and tonight they have Karaoke at 8 p.m. with Rob. The vendor show will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, Aug. 9 at the Lake Belt Bar and Grill. The City Park will feature a petting zoo, a classic car show, bouncy houses, face painting this afternoon, and show an outdoor movie at 7 p.m. Check out the information on Facebook. Plan to attend. The Ceylon Area Historical Society Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, Aug. 9. They plan to seal the time capsule.

The Ceylon Fire Department Pancake Brunch will be from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow, Aug. 10 in the back room of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill. The menu includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, French toast, sausage, ham and juice or coffee. The cost is a free will donation to the Ceylon Fire Department Relief Association.

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon will have a 5:30 p.m. service tonight instead of the third Saturday of August. Area residents are welcome to join them. The next Saturday service will be Sept. 6.

The Ceylon City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at the City Hall. There is always a time for public comments/questions at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, contact City Hall prior to the meeting date at (507) 632-4653.

The ladies group, LWML, from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 14. Myla Tietje will report about her participation at the National LWML convention in Omaha. All members are encouraged to attend.

A Game Race at the Lake Belt Bar and Grill will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16.

The Martin County Fair in Fairmont starts this coming week. Plan to attend Minnesota’s Other Big Fair. Good luck to exhibitors from 4-H, FFA and open class divisions. Watch for great entertainment opportunities.

The Sherburn Theatre will show “Naked Gun” at 7 p.m. tonight, Aug. 9 and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10.

The Tuesday Coffee Hours continue from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in August at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Join friends and friends you haven’t met yet for coffee, treats and fellowship. Stop by the Sweet Corn sales at the Sherburn Nursery, sold by the Youth Groups of St. John’s.

The American Red Cross blood drives will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 22 at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont. The Best Western in Fairmont will host the blood drives from Sept. 2 to Sept. 3. Call the 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767) number, go online at www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999 to make an appointment or to get further information about blood drives in the area. Blood is urgently needed, so give if you are eligible.
