Grand-opening, new chapter at Walmart

The Fairmont Area Chamber Ambassadors hold a ribbon cutting to celebrate Walmart’s grand opening following a remodeling project, which began in April, on Friday. Walmart staff, local businesses, clubs and community members were present to witness the official grand re-opening of the Walmart Supercenter. New features include big, bold signage throughout the store, modern lightning, new displays to showcase merchandise, new fashion section, Expanded grocery department, new grocery items, additional self-checkouts for customer convenience, wider pharmacy aisles, private screening room, private checkout areas, updated Vision Center, a mothers’ room and a custom Fairmont community mural at the grocery entrance. After a presentation of the United States flag and rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, Store Manager Sara Barnett-Davis brought attention to Walmart associates including individuals that assisted with a construction process, veterans, those employed at Walmart since its inception on Aug. 8, 2007 and those who have dedicated years to the Walmart franchise. Barnett-Davis announced and presented five donations, including $500 toward the Special Olympics, $1,000 toward the Martin County Fair (which begins on Aug. 11), $1,000 toward Relay for Life, $1,000 toward CREST and $2,000 toward Shop with a Cop.
