Ceylon Museum open on Sunday
CEYLON — An open house 100th birthday celebration for Dunnell resident, Fred Knuth, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. today, July 5, at the Dunnell Community Hall. Congratulations on a milestone birthday.
A former Ceylon area resident, Larry Schmidt, will also have a milestone 90th birthday from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 7, at his home at 1601 Cadillac Avenue in Fairmont. People are invited to stop by. Congratulations Larry.
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon will have its communion service at 5:30 p.m. tonight, July 5. They have services on the first and third Saturday evenings. St. Paul’s Lutheran in Wilbert will have Sunday services at 10 a.m. with communion. Their partner church, St. John’s Lutheran in Sherburn, will have 8 a.m. services for the summer. The two churches will have a joint service at 8:30 a.m. on July 13 in Sherburn, followed by a voters’ meeting concerning calling a pastor. The Circle of Faith parishes meet at 9 am Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome and at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Trimont for July. Area residents are welcome to attend any of these services.
The Sherburn Theatre will feature the movie “Jurassic World: Rebirth” at 7 p.m. tonight, July 5, and 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 6.
The Ceylon Area Historical Society Museum will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. tomorrow, July 6, since it is the first Sunday of July. They plan to be open on Aug. 2.
Sundaes at the Park will be at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, at the Triumph Memorial Park in Trimont. The musical entertainment will be provided by the Kittleson Family. Enjoy music and ice cream at the main park. The location in case of inclement weather is the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont.
The Friendship Club, sponsored by St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, invites area residents to join them for a Potluck Lunch at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 7 at the City Park in Sherburn. Bring a dish to pass, lemonade and tableware will be provided. Membership at St. John’s is not required.
The Ceylon area Coffee Lovers meet each Thursday morning from 8:30 to 10 a.m. in the banquet/back room at the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. The Tuesday Coffee Hours meet at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn this month from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Two great opportunities for fellowship around a cup of Coffee. Plan to attend.
The American Red Cross Blood drives will be in Fairmont in July. They will have a blood drive at Grace Lutheran Church on July 10, and at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on July 21 and at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn on Aug. 4. Thanks to the Ceylon High School All Class Reunion Committee for organizing the reunion of the former Huskies last weekend. Sounds like all had a good time. The Ceylon Summer Auction is scheduled for July 19. This year, they will be missing a member of the auctioneering group since Gary Helmers passed away. Condolences to his family. Consignment of agricultural items will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from July 10 to July 17. No household items, please. Plan to attend the other big auction in Ceylon.
Summer is the season for festivals. The Welcome Festival will be from July 18 to July 19. The Trimont FunFest will from July 13 to July 15. Truman will have their 50th annual Truman Days from July 25 to July 27. Plan to attend an area festival this summer.
