Area Roundup: Warriors Softball secures four wins in two days
PREP SOFTBALL LATE SATURDAY
NORTH UNION 14,
BELMOND-KLEMME 3
BELMOND – The North Union Warriors finished their four-game run with a victory over Belmond-Klemme 14-3 in a Top of Iowa Conference game Saturday.
The game was meant to be played Thursday, but was postponed due to rain.
It was slow-going at first, with North Union ahead 2-1 after the third. The first big burst came with three runs in the fourth. Belmond-Klemme would score one run in the fourth and fifth, but the Warriors sealed the deal with three runs in the sixth and six runs in the seventh.
A majority of the runs came from a singular source, as Brylie Deim had seven RBIs to go with two runs while going 2-4. Ariana Giddings went 2-3 with two RBIs and two runs.
In a complete game, Ainsley Ulrich had four strikeouts and only two earned runs allowed.
The Warriors (18-5) have their next game Tuesday against Eagle Grove at 6 p.m. on the North Union Middle School Softball field.

GEHLEN CATHOLIC 1
FORT DODGE – In the second game of a Saturday tournament doubleheader, the North Union Warriors steamrolled nonconference opponent Gehlen Catholic in five innings 13-1.
The Warriors came out strong in the first three innings, putting up 10 runs before Gehlen Catholic could muster one. North Union put out a three-run burst in the fifth for the final blow, with Gehlen Catholic unable to rally.
Brylie Deim went 3-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Ainsley Ulrich went 2-3 with two RBI and two runs, while Aslynn Sobolik went 2-4 with two RBIs.
In five innings pitched, Olivia Price had three strikeouts while allowing only three hits and no earned runs.

POCAHONTAS AREA 3
FORT DODGE – In the toughest of their four games, the North Union Warriors upset nonconference opponent Pocahontas Area by one run 4-3.
The Warriors opened up with two runs in the first, which Pocahontas Area responded to with a run of their own to make it 2-1. North Union and Pocahontas Area traded runs in the third, before North Union scored one run in the fourth to make it 4-2. Pocahontas Area would score a run in the fifth, but that and other challenges mounted would come up short.
Shallie Walders went 2-4 with two RBIs, while Aslynn Sobolik went 1-4 with two RBIs.
In six innings of work, Ainsley Ulrich had seven strikeouts while only allowing two earned runs and four hits.
LATE FRIDAY
NORTH UNION 13, BISHOP GARRIGAN 4
SWEA CITY – The North Union Warriors beat Bishop Garrigan 13-4 in a Top of Iowa Conference game Friday.
The game was close for a time. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first, Bishop Garrigan came back with runs in the third and fourth to make it 3-2. When North Union scored two runs in the fifth, Bishop Garrigan responded in kind to make it 5-4. What blew the game away was the eight-run onslaught by the Warriors in the bottom of the sixth, which Bishop Garrigan could not recover from.
Brylie Deim went 3-5 with three RBIs and two runs, while Ainsley Ulrich went 2-5 with three RBIs and one run. Kyla Irmiter went 2-4 with two RBIs and one run.
In a complete game, Ulrich had eight strikeouts and only allowed three earned runs.

LATE SATURDAY
NORTH UNION 12,
BELMOND-KLEMME 6
BELMOND – The North Union Warriors secured the victory over Top of Iowa Conference rivals Belmond-Klemme 12-6 Saturday.
Like the softball game, this was postponed from Thursday.
Belmond-Klemme got the early lead in the first, but North Union rallied back in the second and third to make it 3-1. Belmond-Klemme went on a tear in the fifth and sixth to make it 6-3, with no answer from the Warriors. With one last chance, North Union made the most of it and strung together nine runs to take the lead and grow it to 12-6. Belmond-Klemme was unable to come back.
Carson Crouch went 1-2 with three RBIs and one run while Brennan Bollinger went 1-3 with three RBIs and one run. Max Merrill went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs.
In 3.1 innings on the mound, Cooper Hoye had three strikeouts with only one earned run and three hits allowed.
The Warriors (7-12) have their next game Tuesday against Eagle Grove at 7:30 p.m. at Bancroft Memorial Park.

BISHOP GARRIGAN 5, NORTH UNION 4
BANCROFT – In a nail-biter Top of Iowa Conference battle Friday, the North Union Warriors fell to Bishop Garrigan in eight innings 5-4.
Bishop Garrigan started with two runs in the first, before adding on with single runs in the third and fourth to make it 4-0. The Warriors scored one run in the fifth, but needed a rally to keep themselves in the game. They did just that, scoring three runs in the seventh to tie it up at 4-4 but unable to get the win. Bishop Garrigan scored a run in the eighth, and North Union was unable to.
Casey Rezac went 1-3 with a RBI, while Greyson Colegrove went 1-4 with a RBI. Caden Walders, Colin Kruse, Max Merrill, and Cole Nicoson each scored one run.
