Ceylon museum accepting time capsule item ideas

CEYLON — Well, today is the last day of May, so the news items will be about June for this column. The ladies’ group WELCA from St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon will have their June meeting at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, at Homestead Assisted Living in Estherville with Jeannine. All members are encouraged to attend.

The Circle of Faith Parishes, of which St. Peter Lutheran is a member, will change times beginning June 1, and the June services will be at 9 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon and 10:30 a.m. services at Waverly Lutheran Chuch north of Welcome. There will be one joint service for Pentecost at 9 a.m. on June 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome, with coffee to follow. Members are encouraged to wear red, the Pentecost color, for the special service.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert has begun the summer service times at 10 a.m. on Sundays. Their partner church in Sherburn, St. John’s Lutheran, will have one service at 8:30 a.m. for the summer. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon has 5:30 p.m. services on the first and third Saturdays, so the next one is scheduled for June 7. Area residents are welcome to join these churches for services.

The Friendship Club invites all area residents to join them for a Dutch treat lunch at 11 a.m. on June 9 at Tami’s on the Ave. in Fairmont.

Tuesday Coffee Hours will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday morning in June at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good treats, coffee and great fellowship. Thursday Coffee Hours are held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Thursday at the back room of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon.

Condolences to the family of Daryl Morris from Ceylon and Doris Huber from Trimont, who passed away recently. They will be missed by family and friends.

The Ceylon Area Historical Society Museum will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, and the first Sunday in June, July, and August. They will be open for the weekend during the Ceylon High School Reunion on June 28. They will open the time capsule sealed in 2000 at the Ceylon Centennial, as 2025 is the 125th anniversary of the founding of Ceylon. They are taking suggestions for items to seal in the time capsule after the reunion. Contact any of the directors, Ronnie Leiding, Jim Plumhoff, Greg Bents, Marilyn Stelter or Ann Yackle with suggestions.

The CREST Lunch-n-Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 4 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn, located at 212 North Prairie Street (Congregational Church). The program will include playing games and enjoying fellowship. The luncheon will follow the program. The meal includes lasagna, lettuce salad, garlic bread and watermelon. This free educational and fun activity is open to all senior citizens in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation for the lunch. Note the change of location from the Senior Center.

The American Red Cross blood drives continue in June with drives on June 3 and 4 in Fairmont at the Best Western, June 9 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, June 20 at the American Legion in downtown Fairmont and on June 30 at the St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and the Community Center in Truman. Blood is critically needed now, so give if you are eligible. Thank you.

The Trimont Sundaes in the Park begins at 6 p.m. on June 8. The concert will be by the Centennial Band that day. The next concert will be on June 22. In case of inclement weather, the concerts and sundaes will be held at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont.
