MCW choir concert tonight
SHERBURN — A CREST Lunch-N-Learn program will be at 11 a.m. today, May 7, at the Sherburn Senior Center by the City Hall beginning at 11 a.m. The program will be about easy gardening and will be presented by Joyce Peterson. The lunch following will include ham balls, cheesy potatoes, beans and a brownie. These programs are free for Martin County senior citizens. CREST appreciates a free-will donation for the lunch.
Hamburger Night will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, May 7, at the Sherburn Legion. Hamburger, salad, and beans cost $10. Steak Fry Night will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at the Sherburn Legion. Plan to attend.
The Martin County West (MCW) Choir Concert will be at 7 p.m. tonight, May 7. The Band Concert is at 7 p.m. on May 14. Plan to attend.
The Prairie Land facility in Truman will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, May 7, for hazardous household waste drop-off. This is not accepted at Sherburn’s Clean Up Day.
Sherburn’s Clean Up Day is on Saturday, May 10. The curbside pick-ups (with flags) will be at 6 a.m. There will be a free drop-off site behind the City Hall for Sherburn residents only. Acceptable items include general non-hazardous household waste, ‘junk’, furniture, small items of carpet and drywall in containers, any loose items should be in a bag tied and not over 25 pounds, sharp objects must be in a puncture-proof container. Unacceptable items include construction debris, hazardous items, industrial or medical waste, liquids like paint or oil, oily rags, tires, grass and shrub waste from yards, appliances, and electronics. A free drop-off site will be behind City Hall from 8 to 10 a.m. Call City Hall with questions (507) 764-4491.
A special Mother’s Day craft session for area children from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. tomorrow, May 8, at the Town Center in Trimont. Fathers, grandfathers, etc., can help a child paint a pot and plant a plant in the pot for their mom.
There will not be a Ruby’s Pantry grocery distribution in May in Sherburn due to scheduling conflicts.
Tuesday Coffee Hours in May will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, treats, and great fellowship.
The American Red Cross blood drives will be on May 15 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, May 19 at St. Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, and May 23 at the LiveFit Gym in Fairmont. Call (800) RED-CROSS (800-733-2767), go online to www.redcrossblood.org, or text ‘BLOODAPP’ to ‘90999’ to get further information about blood drives and to make an appointment. Give if you are eligible because there is a need for blood now.

MCW athletes have big plans for the rest of May. A track and field meet will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Lake Crystal. The softball team will be in Nicollet at 4:30 p.m. The boys’ and girls’ golf teams will play at 1 p.m. on Friday in Madelia. A Softball Tournament will be from 9 a.m. to after 3 p.m. on Saturday in Walnut Grove. A baseball tournament will be at 2 p.m. at St. James. The boys’ golf team will play on Monday at Madelia in the final round of the Tomahawk Valley Conference. The girls’ golf team will have a Conference Tournament at 10 a.m. in Wabasso at 10 a.m. The boys’ and girls’ golf teams will play at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday at the Fox Lake Course.. The softball team will play against Sleepy Eye at 4:30 p.m. at the Welcome Field. The baseball team will play against Loyola at 6:30 p.m. at Mankato’s Franklin Rogers Field. Good luck, Mavericks.

May 26 is the Memorial Day program at the park in Sherburn (or high school if inclement weather) at 10:30 a.m.
The groundbreaking for the new MCW school will be at 2 p.m. on May 28 at the football field in Sherburn.
May 30 is the last day of school. A senior slide show will be at 1:30 p.m. at the high school. Graduation will be at 2 p.m. on June 1.
