EDA housing study due Dec. 20

SHERBURN — The LWML ladies group from St. John’s Lutheran Church will have a Guest Day at 2 p.m. today, with a program, singing, and a dessert lunch to celebrate Christmas. The congregation will have an Advent service at 6 p.m. tonight. A supper fundraiser for the Youth Group will follow the event.

Bible Study at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon will change to 10 a.m. on Dec. 17 this week. The St. Paul’s Church in Wilbert will have a ladies’ LWML Guest Day at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow, Dec. 12.

This month’s American Red Cross blood drives will be on Dec. 13 at the Live Fit Gym and on Dec. 20 at the American Legion, both in Fairmont. Call 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767), go online to redcrossblood.org, or text ‘blood app’ to 90999 to make an appointment and find a blood drive near your location. Blood is urgently needed now so give it if you are able.

There will be a Santa Day from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Welcome Legion Hall. Fun activities include fire truck rides and police car rides. That day is the deadline to order poinsettias for the St. John’s church decorating at Sherburn Nursery. There will be a band and choir concert at 7 p.m. that day at Martin Luther High School in Northrop.

The Ceylon Fire Relief Association will have a Pancake brunch from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Dec. 15 in the banquet room of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill. They will serve pancakes, french toast, ham, and sausage. Cost is a free-will donation to the Ceylon Fire Department Relief Association.

The Regional Worship Center will have its Children’s Christmas service at 10 a.m., and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will have its Sunday School Christmas service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15. The Sunday School plans to go to Temperance Lake Ridge on Dec. 22 from 9:15 to 10 a.m. On Dec. 15 afternoon, there will be a Sounds of the Season Santa Day from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. A concert featuring Glenn Henriksen will be at 6 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.) at the center.

The Mayo Mobile Clinic will have hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 16 and Dec. 18 in Sherburn near the City Hall. Call the appointment number at (507) 239-8500 and mention Sherburn.

Ruby’s Pantry Grocery Distribution will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16 at the Regional Worship Center parking lot in Sherburn just south of I-90.

Condolences to the family of David Hoppe, who passed away recently. He will be missed.

Crest’s Lunch and Learn program is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Dec. 18 at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. and followed by a light lunch. The Program will center around Christmas. These educational and fun programs are free to senior citizens in Martin County, but they would appreciate a free-will donation for the lunch.

Dec. 20 is the deadline to hand in the EDA housing survey for Sherburn. Contact the City Hall for additional information at (507) 764-4491. The EDA is looking for anyone interested in the one-board position open for Sherburn. Contact City Hall if interested.

Christmas Eve Services at area churches are scheduled for 4 p.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn (they may also attend a 9 a.m. service in Jackson or a 6:30 p.m. service in Lakefield). They will change to Saturday services at 5:30 p.m. from Jan. to March. Christmas Eve services at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn are scheduled for 5 p.m. for a Family service and 9 p.m. for a Candlelight Service. Their partner Church in Wilbert will have 7 p.m. Services that night.

The Civic and Commerce Club would like to thank those who participated and attended the Deck the Halls event last weekend.

The Martin County West School Board is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 at the Sherburn Elementary School building.

The Sherburn Theatre will repeat the movie Moana 2 this coming weekend. It will play at 7 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
