WELCOME -- There will be a Cribbage Tournament tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Welcome Legion Hall beginning at 1:15 p.m. with registration and play at 1:30 p.m. The next date to play cribbage will be Oct. 19. The registration dues are all paid back in prizes. All area cribbage players are welcome to join the fun.
The burn site will also be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 12. Please bring only wood that is 6 inches or less in diameter, no garbage or large wood.
The square dancing group, Lake Promenaders, will meet at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13 for potluck dances and lessons at 804 West First Street in Welcome at the Shaw home. All dancers and watchers are welcome.
The Welcome Legion will meet at 7 p.m, On Monday, Oct.14, at the Welcome Legion Hall. All members are encouraged to attend.
Sherburn Lions will have a food drive from 5 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 28, at the Sherburn Legion (north door). That is the night for the Lions meeting so they will be there to help unload the non-perishable foods, dry food items, non-food items, and paper products. (see posters for a list of needed items) Area towns are encouraged to help the Lions Club in Sherburn fill their shelves.
The Welcome City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the City Hall. All members are encouraged to be present. There is always a time for public comments and questions at the beginning of each meeting without reservations, but to be on the regular agenda please contact City Hall before the meeting date at 507-728-8740 or in person. Welcome to City Hall to the new City Clerk, Jodi Hemann.
Wednesday, Oct. 16, there will be a Lunch-n-Learn beginning at 11 a.m. followed by a luncheon at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. All senior citizens in Martin County are welcome to join them for free educational information. Crest would appreciate a free-will donation for the lunch.
Fall Clean-Up Day in Welcome has been scheduled, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until the truck is full or 10 a.m. on Oct. 19. This is for Welcome residents only. Check the list of items that will be taken at City Hall. Be prepared to show proof of residency.
Please stay clear of the old Welcome School as preparations for demolition are being made.
The Red Cross Blood drive will be in Northrop at the Martin Luther High School on Oct. 21. Call the 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) number, or go online to www.redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or find locations and times of blood drives in your area.
A Trunk and Treat Halloween event (planned by Amanda Kleinschmidt and others) will be at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 27. in downtown Welcome. Contact her for further information.
The Sherburn Civic and Commerce Club will have a political forum at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30 at the Sherburn Theatre. Local, County, and State candidates for office are welcome and the public may ask questions. Be an informed voter on Nov. 5th.
A Welcome School reunion is being planned for July 26, 2025 plan to attend. Schedule vacations or family events to be able to attend.
