‘Trunk or Treat’ planned on Downtown Plaza
FAIRMONT– For the first time, the Downtown Association in Fairmont will be putting on a trunk or treat on Thursday, Oct. 31 and it’s inviting all businesses throughout the community to participate.
Sara Cyphers of D&S Trophies and Kim White of Fairmont Awards are taking the lead on the event.
‘We usually have four-to-five hundred trick or treaters come downtown,” Cyphers said.
She said the association met and thought that closing off Downtown Plaza for trick or treating would make it a safer place for kids to come.
As the event grows, they hope that people could park between Downtown Plaza and Woodland Avenue– which also draws a large number of trick or treaters– and go between the two areas.
“They can go through downtown first because we’re just 4 to 5 (p.m.) and then they can head up there (to Woodland),” Cyphers said.
She stressed that they don’t want to take away from Woodland event, but just be another option for people to go to.
It was also important to the association to open up the event to all businesses in Fairmont, not just those downtown.
“We wanted to include businesses that don’t get as many outliers. Profinium has signed up and some others who can come and set up and be a part of it as well,” Cyphers said. “We already draw the crowd, so the more, the merrier.”
Downtown businesses can still have trick or treaters come into their storefront but the expectation is that other businesses will set up a vehicle for the truck or treat.
Businesses are encouraged to contact Cyphers via text or phone call at 507-236-6288 or White at 507-235-3705 by Oct. 1 to let them know if they would like to set up on Downtown Plaza. Then White will work with the city on finding out how much of Downtown Plaza needs to be blocked off for the event.
While the first one hasn’t yet taken place, Cyphers said they’re already looking forward to the next year and possibly adding some additional features like entertainment.
“We want to see what kind of response we get first. We just want another safe space for kids to trick or treat,” she said.
