Homecoming this week at MCW
SHERBURN — Town residents are pleased that the construction on Highway 4 through Sherburn is complete and the Civic and Commerce Club is having a mini parade starting 5:45 p.m. today, Sept. 25, at the fire hall and proceeding to Pocket Park for a ribbon cutting and hotdog meal around 6 p.m. Residents may join the parade with golf carts.
Condolences to the families of Vanessa Olson from Trimont and William Brolsma from Rochester who recently passed away. They will be missed.
This week is Homecoming Week at Martin County West schools, culminating with a Homecoming football game at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, battling the Wabasso team. The senior class has a chili feed that night too. Plan to attend. Good luck Mavericks. Congratulations to the Homecoming Court, Jacob Wilmes, Josh Roben, Lucas Larson, Kale Larson, Bear Kosbab, Ava Thate, Avery Sanders, Bella Fitzgerald, Cami Clow and Sydney Beseke. The cross-country team will go to Janesville at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26. The volleyball team will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, at New Ulm. The elementary schools are planning to sell candy bars again this year to raise funds for field trips for the elementary students. The sales will begin today and run through Oct. 14.
An American Red Cross blood drive will be held noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at St. Paul’s Church in Welcome. Blood drives will also be held that day at Grace Lutheran Church and St. John Vianney Catholic Church, both in Fairmont. In upcoming news, the congregation at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn is reminded that their Sunday services will be changing to 10:30 a.m. from October through December.
The upcoming harvest season is upon us. Please make extra effort to have a safe harvest in the field and on the roads. Watch for slow moving vehicles and harvest equipment on the roads.
