Burn site in Welcome open Saturday

WELCOME — There will be an American Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, Aug. 23, at the American Legion, 300 Downtown Plaza in Fairmont. Also, the Best Western in Fairmont will have a blood drive on September 3 and 4. There is an urgent need for blood now so give if you are able. Thank you.

The Welcome burn site will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 24. Please, no garbage. Only wood, 6 inches in diameter or smaller. Thank you for your cooperation.

Trimont Sundaes at the Park will be held 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at Memorial Park in Trimont. Entertainment will be by the Fett Brothers. Music and ice cream, what a great combination.

Tuesday coffee hours for August continue one more time from 8:30-10 a.m. Aug. 27, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. September coffee hours will be held at St. Paul’s Church in Welcome on Dugan Street. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee and great fellowship.

There will be a new student orientation event for 7th graders and new students at MCW on Aug. 28, at the high school in Sherburn. The first day of school for students in grades 7-12 is scheduled for Sept. 3 and Sept. 5 for grades K-6. For further information, contact the school district website at www.martin.k12.mn.us.

Affidavits of candidacy for Welcome City offices were filed by Dan Schmidtke and Kim Holm for Mayor and Elroy Glidden, Eric Anderson and Jon Auringer for the two open city council positions. Election is Nov. 5.

Martin County West (MCW) School Board affidavits of candidacy were filed by Laura Borchardt, Danielle Peters, Jeff Scholl, Darren Thate and Mark Wohlhuter as incumbents and four more candidates, Justin White, Andrew Krusemark, Tom Studer and Bill Unterseher also filed. They will be on the ballot for the election on Nov. 5.
