CEYLON — Area churches have some special events planned. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon will have a 5:30 p.m. service tonight, Aug. 3, with communion. Circle of Faith parishes will change to their Sunday services for the month of August with 9 a.m. services at Waverly Lutheran Church

north of Welcome and 10:30 a.m. services at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert will have 10 a.m. services and their partner church in Sherburn, St. John’s Lutheran will have 8:30 a.m. services. All area residents are welcome to join these churches for worship.

The WELCA women’s group from St. Peter will meet at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, and the LWML women’s group from St. Paul’s in Wilbert will meet 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8. All members are urged to attend these meetings.

Sunday, Aug. 4, is also the last of the open hours during the summer at the Ceylon Area Historical Society Museum from 1-3 p.m. Check out all the interesting items from the city, area, school and legion.

Coffee Lovers meet 8:30-10 a.m. each Thursday in the back room of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. Tuesday coffee hours in August begin 8:30-10 a.m. Aug. 6, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Men and women are encouraged to join friends and neighbors for good coffee and fellowship.

American Red Cross blood drives will be held Monday, Aug. 5 at Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Live Fit Gym in Fairmont and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 23, at the Fairmont Legion, 300 Downtown Plaza in Fairmont. Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome will have a special 125th anniversary service and meal on Sept. 8. Please RSVP to the Circle of Faith office at (507) 728-8259 by Thursday, Aug. 8. Congratulations Waverly Lutheran, quite a milestone.

There will be an election on November 5 and a Mayor and two city council members will be elected in Ceylon. Anyone who would like to file an affidavit of candidacy should contact Ceylon City Hall by 5 p.m. on Aug. 13.
