Rummage sales deadline Saturday

WELCOME — Tomorrow, July 13, is the deadline to get your garage/rummage sale on the listing compiled by Pat Schmidtke. A thank you to Pat for compiling the list. It will be available at the city hall and Casey’s before that weekend.

Circle of Faith parishes will have a joint service beginning 10 a.m. Sunday, July 14, at Anderson Park in Trimont. As a reminder, the Trimont Fun Festival starts today, July 12 and goes until Sunday, July 14. The parade is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13.

Condolences to the family of David Panka of rural Welcome who passed away recently. He will be missed.

The Welcome Legion Auxiliary will not meet on Monday.

There will be a CREST-sponsored Lunch & Learn program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont, followed by a lunch. These Interesting programs are free to anyone in Martin County. They appreciate a free will donation for the lunch.

The burn site for Welcome residents only will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 13.

Tuesday coffee hours for July continue from 8:30-10 a.m. July 16, at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn, just south of I-90. Join friends and neighbors for coffee, goodies and great fellowship.

Welcome City Council is scheduled to meet 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, following a 6 p.m. public hearing about the street improvement project proposed for next year. All members are urged to attend. There is always a time for public comments and questions at the beginning of each meeting without prior notice. Anyone wanting to be on the regular agenda should contact the city hall prior to the meeting by calling (507) 728-8740.

Waverly Lutheran Church will have a special service to celebrate the congregation’s 125th anniversary on Sept. 8. Are there relatives that should be notified so they can make plans to join in the festivities? If so, let them know.

Welcome Summer Festival is scheduled for July 19-20 this month. City-wide garage/rummage sales usually run from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning. The medallion hunt’s first clue will be given at 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 19. The second clue will be given 9 a.m. Saturday, July 20, and the third clue is planned for after the parade on Saturday with the fourth clue at 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening. The winner of the medallion hunt receives a $50 prize. They will have inflatables from 5-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Hansen Keck Park. Another event that weekend is the chicken feed fundraiser for the Welcome Fire Department Relief Association from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, at the Welcome Legion Hall. Outside the legion hall, DJ Chopper will be entertaining from 7 p.m. to midnight. The pedal pull competition will be held 6:30 p.m. with registration at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the 5K walk/fun run will begin at 8 a.m. with registration at 7:30 a.m. The car show will be held 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with registration at 9 a.m. The vendor show runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hansen Keck Park. There will also be balloon art from 1-4 p.m. and pony rides from noon to 2 p.m. at the park. The parade will begin 4:30 p.m. with line up at 3:30 p.m. on Mill Street. It will go to Campbell Street then to Dugan Street and back south. After the parade there will be performances by the Hobo Band, Su Fu Du and Groove Drum Corps. There will be a mechanical bull from 7-11 p.m. by the Welcome Legion Hall. Steve Lang will perform from 6-8 p.m. and the Fat City All Stars band will play from 8:30 p.m. to midnight. The raffle drawing will be held
