Registration for Truman Days parade open
TRUMAN — Remember to get your registration form in if you plan to be in the Truman Days Parade at 5 p.m. on July 27. They need to know the length of your unit to have enough space for you in the line up.
Did you know the Truman Days memorabilia can be ordered by email. Orders and questions can be sent to trumandays.mn@gmail.com. Tee-shirts, coffee, mugs, shot glasses and Christmas ornaments are available.
Truman Active Living group will meet 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9. Any interested Truman area resident is welcome to join this group at the Truman Museum. Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a Martin County student that is in a business-related field entering their junior or senior year post-secondary year in a four-year college or their final year in a Technical College. The scholarship is awarded after a review of grades to confirm achievement of a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Scholarship applications may be picked up at the Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce office located at 323 E. Blue Earth Ave. or can be filled out on the Chamber website at www.fairmontchamber.org. Applications must be submitted and received by the chamber office no later than July 12, 2024.

The Minnesota State Fair and Minnesota Livestock Breeders Association offers scholarships and deadlines are in July and August. Minnesota State Fair scholarship awards up to 22 scholarships $1,000 each. The scholarships are available to use for those enrolled in agricultural programs in 2023-2024. Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to people of any age entered in a skilled trade career or furthering their training. The application for the Minnesota state fair scholarships must be submitted online by 4:30 p.m. on July 15. Information about these scholarships can be found at mnstatefair.org/about-the-fair/awards-and-recognition/. The Minnesota Livestock Breeders’ Association, in conjunction with Minnesota 4-H and the 4-H Auction Committee, will award a minimum of $60,000 in scholarships to 4-H members furthering their education and work toward a post-secondary degree at an accredited college or university. To apply, applicants must have completed high school by 2024 or earlier and be attending college for the 2024-2025 school year. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on August 1. Watch for the arrival of the Truman Active Living Farmers Market tokens. There are general rules to follow with this program.
General rules:
• Tokens can be used to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, or food, producing plants, only produce vendors can accept the tokens, non-produce vendors cannot except the tokens under any circumstance, no change will be given for tokens, participants do not have to spend their tokens the same market day it was received. Participants may save tokens for future market days, and or spend multiple tokens at one time to make larger purchases.
• What can be purchased with the tokens? All fresh vegetables, all fresh fruit, seeds for edible plants and whole plants that produce edible produce. What cannot be purchased with tokens? Dairy products, meet, poultry, fish, eggs, bread, cereals, jam, syrups, honey, rice, greens, package, pastries, hot, or cold immediately consumable foods, fountain drinks, flowers, shrubs fall ornamentals non-food items food soaps, crafts, clothing items. Tokens will be available to children, ages 4-12, and senior citizens.
